I think what’s important is whether *you* like her style of photography or not.

I think overall, she takes nice pictures, but there’s something about her style that isn’t my personal taste. Maybe it’s something about her editing, but to me, a lot of these photos don’t seem to be quite as ‘clear’ as I’d expect from digital photography today- they look a little ‘fuzzy’ to me, especially in some of the group shots where people should be in focus.

(And I’m not a pro photographer, so if somebody who is would like to correct me, be my guest!)

But as I said, she takes nice photos, so if YOU like that style, go for it.

I’ve seen worse… but I’m not particularly a fan of her overediting.  I don’t really care for the vintage look, but even more than that, the over photoshopped look (what I mean by that is very intense edges to people with softer, washed out middles).

There’s inconsistency in tone and lighting as well.

This is only in what I could see… normally I will only judge a photog from full weddings.  This one’s blog, from what I could see, consists of only “teaser” posts with 3 photos from each wedding… that goes nowhere in helping us see whether or she gets consistently good quality results.  If there were full weddings, I didn’t see them in the first few pages.  It makes me very suspicious.  If you don’t look at several full weddings, you’re only seeing the stuff that photog believes came out well.  The rest of the wedding may have looked much worse.

What it is about her that you like?  Some of the things I don’t like are merely different stylistically… some, I think she actually is doing a poor quality job.  My standard advice for people booking a wedding photographer is this:

    1.  See at least a few FULL weddings and make sure you LOVE the results.  Ask yourself, if these were my wedding photos, would I be happy?  The answer needs to be yes.

    2.  Whatever you do, don’t let photography be the place in the wedding that you cut your budget.  The photos you get will be tangible memories of one of the most important days of your life.  The food gets eaten and forgotten, the flowers die… but the photos will be with you forever.  Go with someone whose work you know you love – not the person who gives you the best deal or includes the most stuff.  Great photography is expensive – and worth it.

Personally I’m not particularly fond of her style, so I wouldn’t book her myself, but that doesn’t mean that her photos are “bad” or that you shouldn’t book her.  If you and your Fiance both like her photos and you guys have a good rapport with her, then go for it.

@seAprilbride:  +1 I voted no for pretty much all the same reasons.
