As some of you know from two of my other posts, I now officially loathe my caterer.  Nice situation, right? Okay, so apart from making us a cardboard cake -- oh, it's beyond gorgeous on the outside and the top layer is REAL so we can cut into something (there'll be a sheet cake in the back from which he'll cut for our guests), he now tells me that the pix i've seen of this cake -- his cake -- are not what he's making me -- again, I stress -- in cardboard!!! The layers will be 12 inches on the bottom, 9 inches in the middle and 6 inches for the top.  Oh, and if I want to shave $225 of this ridiculous $405 FAKE wedding cake, I can eliminate the bottom layer of cardboard altogether and go with the two teensy weensy layers.  And he's not even supplying a cake stand to elevate this beauty.

Now how does all that sound? So, I've found me a cake lady OUTSIDE who will make me an equally beautiful cake for $495, a REAL one, 3-tiered, with a 14 inch bottom and on up from there.  So, now the caterer has called my venue to have them squeeze me for insurance for anybody who comes in from the outside delivering food or liquor! what an a-ahem.

don't tell me to fire him; he'll keep thousands of our dollars, as per the contract, and our wedding is four weeks away!

just thought i'd make some of your chuckle.  p.s.  all of the above is true!

Wow, what a... jerk.  Since you're stuck with him, you have to play nice for 4 more weeks.  I hope everything goes well for the day of.  Afterward, you should totally write bad reviews on any wedding sight you can find!  That's really harsh though, so don't do it unless its totally worth it!

thanks jennifer! you know, I have been super careful about mentioning the caterer's name/company; well known in nyc.  i have a feeling i won't, even on the boards, but if asked on the boards, like does anybody know about.... then i most definitely will because i'd want to spare another bee or knottie all this heartbreak.  i mean, somehow, for whatever emotional thing the cake seems to represent to me, he broke my heart when i took a look at my notes from our last phone convo and realized that, not only was the cake fake (i knew that it would be unless i wanted to spend $1,000), but that it was so small too!

That's a huge bummer! What a headache!! It's so weird to me how brides have to basically suck up to their vendors until the wedding day, just so that the day will run smoothly. I don't think there is another time in our lives that we'll be in a customer situation and be forced to be nice to whomever we're buying things from, just so we can get what we paid for... It seems so backwards to me!
