I've attended about 30 weddings in the last 3 years. I am so sad to see things I saw randomly and loved and decided to do... considered "played out." I have loved damask forever.. and now its everywhere. I wanted a birdcage veil and fascinator-- every wedding i went but one this year, the bride had a fascinator. I stopped dead when I saw sticks with crystals hanging off as a centerpiece... and it seems a lot of people in blog land have done it now. I thought peacock feathers would be different... and it is to me IRL but not online! Purple has been a favorite color of mine for a long time... and I went to 4 weddings this year with purple as the color. It's kind of a bummer, because what I thought would be unique is totally "trendy" slash played out I guess.
Plus, my fiance's family is wedding-ed out now. 6 weddings this fall... nothing will be fresh, even though we are all pretty different. Three of us planned from ideas from the same blogs and you can tell. :-) I saw one candy bar though-- the first time I have actually seen one in person.
At the same time, outside of my fiance's family, most people havent attended the volume of weddings I have and I am the first of my generation to get married in my family. I thought magnet save the dates were pretty standard but like 15 people went out of their way to tell me what a neat idea they thought that was-- very impressed.
It's my hope that people will have a great time at our wedding and not notice if something is played out or something. :-/ If they do.. I hope they can enjoy themselves anyway. We tried to plan an event that is "us" and includes elements we love.
I'm just curious for some examples of vintage-overdone and vintage-classic.
I'd say some of my wedding was vintage, but I also think that is my style. We also had our reception at a cool historic house w/ a fun backstory...
I am pretty old fashioned in some ways, and I wanted a conservative dresses, etc, but I don't think it seemed overly theme-y.
I love the j crew bm dresses. I think it's very in and will remain in for the bm's to have dresses they will actually wear again instead of silk or satin monstrosities that will do nothing but hang in closets for years to come (trust me I know this).
I think the vintage is pretty, but I honestly would like to see a wedding blog with NO vintage in it for a change. It's just not my style and would like to see more of destination weddings, encore weddings, and of course, very very elegant weddings and outdoor weddings. I'm going to do an outdoor wedding and it's not going to be vintage.
I think "action stations" are also something that's current, and not sure how I feel about it except for desserts. "Mini" stuff either seems to be the trend. From teeny servings of mac and cheese to cheeseburgers (aka the slider) to mini dips in teeny containers, that seems to be all over the place and i'm not quite sure that's something I'm fond of. If I bring you a nice gift to your wedding, give me a plate of some good food.
