of an eternity band as an engagement ring?

Lately to help ease the "waiting ache" I've been on the hunt for e-rings. I started looking up settings without prongs (bezel set, channel set, gypsy set, etc) and though they are beautiful, they just weren't "me". The other day I was reading about Aubrey Hepburn and found out that she had an eternity band as an engagement ring in the early 1950's! *LIGHT BULB* "An eternity band? As an e-ring? Surprised" Perfect!

So I was wondering what you guys thought? All opinions welcome (and encouraged!) Have a good Wednesday!

I think that it is a great idea. If you like it, go for it. You are going to be the one wearing it. =)

i really love that idea actually and considered it myself before deciding i prefered 3 stone rings... but I think an eternity ring would be beautiful and more claasic/delicate looking as well as being more practical for everyday wear. If you change your mind later on you could always get a solitaire/three stone to add to the set for an anniversary present

I know there was someone else on here who decided on an eternity ring for thier ering.  I cant remember who it was though.. darn.. Anyway, they were going to stack eternity rings, which I think it a really cute look.  It will look awesome!

I think its great! I'd recommend a 3/4 instead of a full eternity, so you can get it sized down the road, if need be.

I love this idea, and in fact almost did it myself.  FI and I were given a diamond that was my mom's (read: free diamond!)  which we reset, so I have a solitare.  However, if that diamond had not been available to us, I TOTALLY would have gone with an eternity band as e-ring.  I would have then worn it with a thin plain band as my wedding ring.  I love that look!(photo credit: pricescope.com)

a girl that i work with has a half eternity band as her engagement ring. i really like the idea especially if you want something that isn't big and bulky. she likes that it's easy to deal with and working in lab it really cuts down on glove tearing issues! eternity bands are so pretty! i'm getting one as my wedding band and i'm sure that i'll be wearing it alone quite often!

Thank you all for the responses and PICTURES! I've been googling eternity rings paired w/ wedding bands pics but haven't been able to find any, so thanks again. I really like the 3/4 suggestion!

I thought I would go nuts with anything too "high" set, and I ended up with a Cathedral setting, lol.  Actually, it isn't anywhere near as bad as I was thinking...

@ Midnightsun: I love this idea - I especially love the stacked idea.  You could keep adding bands for major milestones - birthdays, anniversaries, babies, etc.  Love it!

What kind of setting are you thinking though? Prong set, bezel set, channel set, micropave????

    Show us your ideas!

@MrsK2Be - The only thing I requested (besides the general style of the ring) is that it be yellow gold, because for our wedding rings are going to be gold nugget bands with gold from my families mine. Boyfriend can pick out whatever he thinks is pretty beyond that lol.
