Sometimes I think they’re tacky but every once in a while I’ll see something I like. (BTW I don’t really like the first one posted below..just needed a picture for demonstration). However, I think they’re adorable for pets…I’ll probably have my dog wear one like the second image below.

Everyone else seems to like them but I absolutely can’t stand them. I feel like it makes photos even more posed than they already are and makes them cheesy. My 2 cents.

@Seattlegrl: I personally think a good photo should be able to tell a story without the subjects holding a sign. 🙂
When I first saw your thread topic, I thought you were asking about props for a photo booth. I really dislike those! I spend a lot of time (and pain!) keeping my upper lip hair free. Please don’t ask me to hold a mustache on a stick in front of my face for a picture! 🙂 Tee hee. 🙂

I do not consider pets as props and I think a few photos with a cat/dog is cute.
However, I am not a fan of balloons, signs, sparklers, etc. I find props distracting.
A beautiful backdrop (field, ocean, park, etc) with two well dressed people make for a wonderful and timeless photo……….

@Seattlegrl: LOVE the one on the dog!!!!

@Seattlegrl: I think it just depends….I’m not really for or against it but the first pic is just ehhhh ok but the 2nd picture is fabulous! How could anyone not like that 2nd pic……its awesome with the doggie in it!

@Seattlegrl: I think it depends. I’ve liked some, like with balloons or something related to their interests. We’re doing our engagement session this weekend at a bookstore, so I’m sure there will be some of us “reading” our favorite books. I’m not into sports, but I have seen cute ones with sports-related things which would be awesome for a couple that is into that.
In general, I think any wedding related things should say something about the couple. Don’t have all your bridesmaids in cowboy boots when you’ve always been a city gal. Don’t have super serious traditional portraits done when you’re a casual, silly couple. I just hate how the wedding industry tries to turn everyone into some Martha Stewart, SMP, big white frilly princess-robot. Be you.

I think they’re cute if they really mean something to the couple or say something about them. So using signs for the sake of using props, meh. But using your pet, or something that describes you as a couple can be cute.
Example, we used a football for our e-pics. Everyone knows Darling Husband and I are huge football fans, so it made perfect sense.

I like some of them, most are tacky in my opinion. We have a dog and wanted to incorporate her, she’s a 5lb yorkie, I bought a sign that said my humans are getting married, but none of the photos came out. She isn’t photogenic, lol!

@Seattlegrl: I like a few but I really think it is easy to go overboard. They certainly shouldn’t be in EVERY photo.
We had a few:
