I guess this is a "legal" issue?? For the legal board?
Anyway- She has such a following of people! She seems like a celebrity. I can't decide what I think about her- as a person with more liberal views, I tend to not enjoy her so much, but then of course, I can't say I dislike her because I don't know enough. The country seems pretty sure she is running for president in 2012, I wonder how she will do if this is true. I think it'll be nice to have a female president, but of course, only if she does a good job?
What does she even do now that she quit her job last year? Just travel around and give speeches?
So hive, what's your general opinion on the woman?
Personally, she seems kinda vacant to me. BUt i dont really know that much about her, like you said.
I consider her to be a puppet. I just find it disturbing that she had no desire or motivation to learn more about current events, national, and international affairs...especially since she is/was an elected official. I don't necessarily think that she should be polished and all of that right off the bat but gee whiz...my 12 year old seems to have a better grasp of the issues of our time than Palin does. If you want to do something...at least have the motivation and respect for what you are trying to do to research and make an informed decision. It would also be nice if she would be a little less inflammatory in her speech.
I find her fascinating, from a political/popular culture standpoint. I mean, where else can a woman who took 5 stints at 4 different universities to graduate with a bachelors degree be considered a serious contender for President?
Obviosly, I'm not a fan. But I do find it fascinating how her celebrity-esque characteristics have made her such a well-known political figure. She's not famous for actually doing anything politically, just for being Sarah Palin.
@eholden- I agree with you! It's like Lady Gaga, she's fascinating.. but just sort of inhuman or something :p
I guess I am in the minority, but I am a big fan of her since I am a huge small gov't/states rights person. She is working for Fox News now.
Honestly, I can't take her seriously as she is for abstinence only sex education. Kids get curious and will have sex, and there isn't really much anyone can do about it. You need to make sure they are aware of the conssequences and alternatives. Of course, as a parent, you also need to make sure that your views on the subject are known. And that having sex before you are mature enough to handle the consequences (mentally and financially) are unacceptable. I disagree with her on other issues as well, one of which is hunting wolves from helicopters (NOT cool).
I do think that the media completely tore her up and gave her the reputation she has now and I know they only did that because she is a Republican. I don't think she is as stupid as they made her out to be.
I'm an Independent, and am not a big fan of Obama, so if Palin runs in 2012, I am going to have a VERY tough time voting.
@ Sararocks: Hunting wolves from helecopters? haha what!! i havent heard anything about that
I basically want to echo EVERYTHING SarahRocks says. This past election, I switched from Democrat to Independent and did not place a vote for President. I don't want to have to do the same thing for the second time in a row...
It always seems like there's so many people who hate the 2 who end up running. It's so hard to please everyone though.. politics are just so crazy! I want to hear more about sarah Palin though, she just did some sort of tea party (??) speech and CNN and MSNBC were blowing up about it
As a fiscally conservative/socially liberal woman I crave seeing women that represent my interests in politics. When I hear Sarah Palin use "gotcha" catch phrases I feel like it gives the conservative side of me a bad rap.
@Sarah- I think that can be a good thing and a bad thing- I would like to think that she is well versed, but saying things like that make people think they relate better to her i think.
Anyone rememeber the presidential debate where she addressed the camera instead of oppenets/audience/moderator? Hahha, everyone made a big stink about that
I can't believe she is taken seriously. R and I watched the vice presidential debate, and our mouths continually dropped open like, "did she really just say that?"
I'm not a fan at all. I don't know why we keep lowering the bar for our political leaders. Like someone else said, it took her 5 years and 4 schools to get a BA. How she is even a contender for the Presidential race is beyond me because she's just a complete empty shell. To be fair, I really do think she wants small government, but beyond that, I feel like she just has a bunch of talking points. I'm also so liberal that I'm a step right of communist, so I'm not a huge fan of any republicans and most democrats aren't liberal enough for me.
@Nlmiele - Thats funny about her addressing the camera. I can't stand watching Obama speak because he NEVER looks at the camera!
I think she has a lot of charisma and conviction, but very little else.
What was very telling to me (bring it back to legal) was an interview in which she was asked about her views on Roe v. Wade. I think any serious person has to recognize that she has walked the walk on her anti-abortion views, and is clearly not a hyprocrite there. What was so shocking to me, though, was her relatively unsophisticated/ignorant views on the bedrock case of the issue. For someone who clearly deeply cares about the issue, it is shocking they wouldn't know more about the issue. That struck me really, really wrong. I wasn't a fan of her because I disagree with her on issues, but from that point on I've really questioned her intellectual curiosity, a trait I think is crucial for a leader.
I really don't like her at all. I heard about the wolf thing at a wolf rescue in CO and it made me so incredibly sad. I can't vote for someone who kills endangered animals from helicopters. And don't get me started on abstinence only 'sex' education like SaraRocks.
@Nlmiele - I get that it was an attempt to connect to the general public - but it alienated a lot of people that will joke about things like that with friends yet want their leaders to speak in a little less casual and more inspiring way.
All of that said, I am thankful that a woman gets to be considered for vice presidency. Makes me super duper thankful for being born in the century I was born in.
@ Nmiele
Roe v. Wade? It is the US Supreme Court case that made abortion legal in the entire US.
Yea, I know about Roe v Wade- I never heard anything about bedrock though, unless it is the same thing? haah idkk
LOL, oh, okay, bedrock is just a phrase for really important case.
I kinda try to avoid political conversations so I'll just say...
"dislike"
I would rather vote for my dog to run as president than Sarah Palin. Just my opinion.
In my opinion someone like her involved in politics is dangerous. I cant understand how anyone likes her or finds her to be a good representation for women. Im sorry, for a lack of a better word shes a complete moron.
She just scares me because I know a big reason that she resonates with so many people is that she IS the common denominator of this country. Most people didn't graduate from Harvard or Yale and go on to become high powered lawyers. So people see her as an "everywoman figure"but honestly, when someone's idea of foreign policy is waving to Russia from her back porch (I know I'm interpolating Tina Fey here) I just want to move to Canada.
I think there are a lot more intelligent, dedicated conservative women and just can't wrap my mind around Palin's popularity. The only thing she has going for her is that she is attractive and she has all the right catch phrases.
I would NEVER vote for anyone who had done what she did to the Alaskan people. She was elected to fill the office of governer, and she abandoned her post for no valid reason. How can we trust her not to do the same to the office of POTUS when things got a little difficult for her?
I think if she ends up the Republican candidate for 2012 (which I honestly think is unlikely), it will be great for the Democrats.
Well, her values are pretty much the exact opposite of mine, so there's that. But what really made me loathe her was the folksy, down-home pop-culture character she created. UGH.
I'll admit, I thought she was terrifying. Now I just think she's a joke.
I do have to give her props for one thing - I think she's the reason Obama won. A lot of swing voters were so appalled by her that I think she lost McCain the election. ;)
I can't stand her and she needs to leave the father of her grandson alone and let him be a father to his child. They worked so hard at making it "seem" like he was such a part of their family and that he and her daughter were gonna get married when she was running for office. All of that so that it would take some of the attention off of the fact that her teenage daughter was pregnant but now that she's not in the Vice Presidency....she's trash talking him.
Msmonica- I agree with you! It sounded really scandalous. It seemed like during the election more bad stuff just kept popping up.
Sounds like not too make people like her- at least on here, and I don't know if that is a representation of the country or not. I hear people talk about how they like her all the time though.
@ Blackcharry- I never thought of it like that! I feel like she quit her job to promote herself haha.
I still want to hear why someone loves her!
I heard people talking about how they liked her during the election, too, but I think some people have had a change of heart. My mom voted for McCain, and was on the fence about Palin, but she has since listened more to what she said, and started being freaked out by Palin. I think that the campaign worked hard to present a very clean image, and it kind of fell apart right after the election with how she treated Levi and Bristol, the campaign money she spent on clothes, the thing with her ex brother-in-law, etc.
Plus, she's horrible to animals. That never sits well in my book. Who says "there is a place for all of Alaska's wildlife - on my plate, right next to the mashed potatoes!" ????
CNN just said that she got paid 100,000 for the tea party speech she did last night- at least we know she's not on welware now that she doesn't have a real job.
gee wiz.
They also just said that she is a political celebrity, not a political candidate. Sigh. Maybe she's throwing the popularity card?
She's still around? Lol.
I guess she took off work because a) she has plenty of money and b) her teenager 17 year old just had a baby and she probably needs to be around to help out and promote that "good family image" and all that business.
