oh it wont upload my photo.... sorry but you know what I mean anyway!
BIG RED BUS!! BIG RED BUS!! I say go for it - your guests will appreciate it and you'll be happy!
well - while I know what you mean about saving for a rainy day etc., sometimes you just have to have something that makes you feel great!
and it's not as if this is extra money is it? It's money you had budgeted already - so why not have something the bus as a bonus for doing so well at saving on other things in your wedding?
I saw a routemaster on Friday, and I did have a pang of 'wouldn't it be lovely' - but then, we are getting married and having our reception all at the same venue, so no need for any transport at all!
Yay!!! BIG RED BUS! Go for it!
It will look fantabulous in the photos, it'll be really fun, it's useful for transport, and it's a BIG RED BUS!
And you deserve a treat after working so hard on keeping within your budget on everything else.
Only jealous cos i want a big red bus too, and they don't have them over here. I'm trying to think of an unusual Mancunian tradition to add to the very American and Marine Corps gubbins we'll have going on at ours, but all i've come up with so far is producing 6 bottles of White Lightning Cider and my belligerent cousin :)
And here's a pic to help you out (I hope)!

I would normally say save it but that idea is so super cool...
I love it.
@silversixpence: cheers for the pic - the computer just didn't like my pic for some reason!
hehe - as well as our swish cocktails I'm supplying strongbow cans as a nod to my misspent youth (and not so youth)
how are you coping with all the hardcore americanisms??
@vicarswifeintraining aah, strongbow. Happy times.
I'm pretty much used to the cultural differences, i've been here nearly 5 years. I'm still realising how very reserved i am compared to your average American, but also how very traditional a lot of them are.
But i like it. It's new and shiny and go-getter. And it reinforces my Britishness too. People think i'm really posh!!! Or Australian.
@silversixpence: Ha all americans I've ever met can't understand me because of my welsh accent! I got the traditionalness with some of the girls on here - and how big american weddings seem to be!! - also these americans seem to be getting married much later than us in the UK .... I'm 226 and thats considered a little on the old side! but many of the brides on here seem to be older than that - oh well!! :)
I think it's a great idea but it really worries me that you will spend all your savings. What if something happens and you can't afford to pay your bills? Can you try and save some of your paychecks over the next few months to pay for some of it?
BIG RED BUS!!!!!!!
The pictures will be AMAZING! When I went to the UK I had my own personal photoshoot with one ;-)
@MissAsB: Yes that was my worries - but like someone else said this is money we've budgeted to spend, we weren't expecting to have been so successful in our thriftiness - in fact we were expecting to overspend any way no be £500 under - also this is money we have already saved up - not taking into account money we would earn in the mean time. But it's in my nature to save not splurge! hehe
@Future Mrs. Martin: Luck Girl!!
Are you kidding? i think that's an awesome idea!
Yes you could save the money for later, but you said that you had underspent on everything, which means that this was part of your originial budget. Obviously you make a budget based on what you would want to spend, so I say go for it. Everyone will remember it, and it's an awesome experience!

OK so when we started planning our wedding in january we had a rough budget which wasn't massive but was enough to do something with. So yesterday night My FI and I did a little total up of our wedding cost fearing the worst, but in our effort to save money at every opportunity we had under-spent, so we had about £500 rolling around and so we though since we were ending up with a sort of vintage wedding (not intentional but it suits us!) - and we deliberately hadn't organized wedding cars we decided to spend the money on transport, we have found a company that will hire us a london routmaster bus, with driver and clippie (ticket collector). So we want one for photo's and to take all 60 of our guests to the hall where the reception is being held.
It would cost all of our saved money - we think it's great and well worth the money - but part of me is saying, save the money for a rainy day! part of me is saying spend it on a holiday in a few years time, spend it on when we have kids. But the other 99% of me is saying - BIG RED BUS!! BIG RED BUS!! And that we're not having a massive wedding - we can afford one little blow out, and that we've scrimped and saved for this day and we've saved money on our wedding at every opportunity, and it will make the day amazing!!!
I have attached the photo - we can use it for our photos and also for transporting 60 guests (plus me and my FI) to the reception! Which is well worth it!!
anyway thoughts ladies?
