Since we’re having a fantasy themed wedding, what do you Bees think of using these as decorations?
Admittedly, I’d be using different fabric than in these pics, but what do you all think? All out dumb, childish, or cute?
Oh, and we’re gonna have little kids there (mostly because we want our own kids, nieces, and nephews at the wedding, lol). So, knowing me, I’d end up letting them play with ’em and probably taking them home! (I know I’ll end up making the bat for my daughter, who LOVES bats! she also just turned 4!)

Personally, I think they’re childish. But it I guess it depends on your personal tastes and the feel of the wedding.
Also, you say you’re having children there and they’re allowed to play with them and take them home; what if they can’t share and start screaming (Suzy got the pink dragon but I WANT THE PINK DRAGON) or take them all before you get to take pictures? Again, if that doesn’t matter to you, then it doesn’t matter, but kids can be very possessive and raise hell when they don’t get what they want.

good point… hadn’t thought of that!
I have another pattern but it’d take at least a month to get ONE done, let alone several. (I’m definitely NOT a seamstress, lol).
10 to 1 my FI will think the same as you, but it’s always good to hear it from someone else. 🙂

I think they are a bit young for the wedding decor. Could you get them for children only and make sure they’ll all identical? That would be cute.

actually, that’s what my FI suggested last night!!!
He’s partial to the “shoulder dragon”.
I kinda figure I’ll end up making a bunch of these things for anyone who wants ’em. (I have some really WEIRD friends who are adults and would probably squeal over ’em, lol)

Since I read on another thread you’re a gamer, I think, with the other things I read about your wedding, you could make them work for you. It’s all in what you want to do and how you’ll pull it off.

Yeah, and it’ll probably also depend on what fabrics I use. I’m sooo excited about making ’em!!! just as soon as I can get the right fabric, lol.
I’ll have to post pics as soon as I start making these….

i’m also wondering about it being too young for a wedding.. but if you do decide to use them pls post pictures would love to see how it works out!

I think they would make a cute favor for the younger guests at your wedding. 🙂

I think if you stay away from plush furry fabrics they will look cooler and less cute. I’m thinking shiny/textured fabrics that will reflect a little light.
I like the idea of giving them away to the kids at the end of the wedding, but like previously stated I’d make sure there is enough for everyone and that can get realllllly time consuming if you have to make a lot.
Also… have you looked into buying the dragon and bat beanie babies? remember those?
These are 2 for $8 shipped: http://www.ecrater.com/p/7731165/ty-beanie-babies-lot-scaly
This one (my favorite cuz it had my birthday AND was a dragon!) is $1.60 + shipping on amazon.
These are much less money and time consuming that buying fabric and fill+ sewing them yourself.

Hmmmm… I hadn’t thought about looking around to see if I could buy them! Thanks for the links!
I actually enjoy sewing and can usually find fabric for $1/yd. Since the patterns require between 1/4yd and 1/2 yd (at the most), it shouldn’t get tooo expensive. Plus, I can always get the fabric online for good prices (usually…). I have a friend who sews color guard flags, so I KNOW she’d know the best places to get the fabric at good prices.
As for the filling, I’ll pester my mother until she hands over my huge box of filling that I bought years ago. If she refuses, there’s always eBay and just buying another box (usually for no more than $20 and it’d be MORE than enough filling!)
Besides… I’ve got two years to make ’em (or at the very least, a year). 🙂
I’ll probably go through our guest list and start putting the names into an excel sheet this weekend to have something to do while the kids play, so that’ll help give me an idea on how many kids too little for dice will be there. (I know of four off the top of my head).

ohhh! If you’ve got two years then making them all is way less of an issue (sorry didn’t even notice your date)! I’d say go the DIY route and they will be way more special and interesting for your guests.
Sorry.. I’m in my last month and have developed a “throw money at the situation” mentality haha

@PaperCrane: tis okay! and I can totally understand that mentality!!! I’m stuck in the DIY mentality right now. (probably because my FI is working a 3pm-11:30pm schedule and I work 10am-6pm schedule.) Give my son the computer and he’s happy, give my daughter a movie and toys and she’s happy (7 and 4, respectively).
I have this black and gold patterned fabric that is just gorgeous that I’ll play around with ’em with, provided I can find the bolt!!
