Hey ladies! Long story short: I lost my original e-ring. Gone forever. Currently rocking a cheap aquamarine stand-in, which is pretty but won’t stand the test of time and isn’t really what I want long-term (it was like 40 bucks).
When my great-grandmother died, she left each girl/woman in the family one of her rings. My husband and I have discussed at length getting my GG’s ring reset with a diamond or blue sapphire (it has a garnet now, but some of GG’s smaller diamonds were left to my mother, who said we could use one). Actually before we got engaged I brought it up that we should do that as a cheaper alternative, but he had already bought me an engagement ring that I didn’t know about!
My issue now is this: does it look ok with my current wedding band? What do you think of the mixed metals/odd shape? Should I reset it with a diamond, or a blue sapphire?
Sorry if these pictures are absolutely massive, by the way.

Oh wow, such beautiful rings. Just curious, what did the original wedding band look like with the ering? Was it custom made to fit around it or something?

I don’t believe that this ring was ever used as an e-ring; I think it was used as a RHR.

It’s a beautiful ring, but for me personally it doesn’t work with your wedding band, and I don’t think it would work with any straight band. Normally I’m into a gap, but it just doesn’t look like it will ever sit right. That being said, the only opinion that really matters is yours!
If you get another stone set in it, I would go with a diamond, but that’s just because I don’t like blue sapphires with yellow gold.

I like it, but I suspect I’ll be in the minority. I also love garnets, so I wouldn’t change the stone. But if I had to choose a new one, I think a sapphire would look nice too.

I think they are both lovely rings, but I don’t think they work well together at all. I would wear the garnet ring as RHR and get a new engagement ring with the insurance money from the old engagement ring.

@Miss Fish: Ah, I got the ering and wedding band mixed up. I thought she lost the wedding band for some reason, oops! Good catch on your part.
Hmm your GG’s ring is absolutely gorgeous and unique. I wouldn’t change it. Maybe it would be better as a RHR? Just my 2 cents.
