Today, co-worker and I were talking and the topic of pregnancy came up.
I am not offended but I think her comment was rude to anyone who has had a child. She said women who are pregnant with girls get ugly during the pregnancy and sometimes the “ugliness” stays. I mean I think thats really rude! And I told her that she is making me scared of getting pregnant, bc I know you will be talking behind my back about how I look when I am pregnant. SHe just laughed.
I am already a self conscious person, I have always had body issues, and hearing the way she talks about other people just makes me paranoid. I don’t agree with what she said at all. I know that women who have had children change physically, but not ugly! My cousins nose got a little bigger, but is she ugly? Hell no! I think she is gorgeous! <br />I just had to vent because that comment rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah that is very rude, and completely untrue. My sister has a daughter and she barely changed (face-wise) at all during pregnancy or after and she is very beautiful. Also your coworker is ugly for talking about people that way.

LOL… your coworker is out of her mind.

That’s an old joke — that daughters steal their mothers’ beauty, so if you have bad acne or hair problems or gain a lot of extra weight during pregnancy then it must be a girl — but if anyone actually takes it seriously and believes it’s a scientific, medical fact, then they’re nuts to the nth power.

Some people are mean. They get enjoyment from making fun of others. She sounds like one of those people. I try my best to avoid those people because I find them unpleasant to be around. I’d just ignore her and try not to dwell on her comments.

Daizy914: She sounds ugly inside. Who cares how other people look. I think what she is referring to is the possible side effects and influx of hormones that may cause undesirable side effects while pregnant ie. acne or swelling. You’re bringing a life into this world. This is not the time to be vain.

I’ve heard that for years. As a fellow NYer though surely you can’t let that get to you with all the ridiculously rude things people say here. Ignore her!

gelaine22: I know, its just this isn’t the first time something obnoxious has come out of her mouth. It gets worse every time!
JenGirl: I share an office with her sooo I can’t ignore her too much LoL

I agree that she sounds ugly inside. It’s hard to believe that some people will find any excuse, or superstision, to put down half over half of the mothers or soon-to-be mothers. It is sad that she thinks this way.

Daizy914: that’s an old wives tale. She sounds miserable. I gained more w my DD than w DS but no facial changes or acne.

Daizy914: I think I would have asked if she had any daughters, but I have a hard time being nice to those who seem to go out of their way to be rude and nasty. 😛

Your co worker is a stupid cow.

Daizy914: Wait what? You get ugly but only if it’s a girl?
I think it was a poor attempt at humour and wouldn’t read much into it. If she said all pregnant women get ugly I’d find it more offensive, but as it stands the comment was more stupid than offensive.

I’d’ve totally said “Ooooh. that explains it then. I take it you have several daughters?”
