DH and I were joking around yesterday and saying what children names we would like for our kids someday (we are currently not TTC). He said one name he really loves for a girl is the name Harper. I actually have never heard this name before and think it's pretty and different. What do you think??

I'm not a huge fan of androgynous names for girls, but I do like it.  I especially like the literary association with Harper Lee.

@Tswife4ever:  She's the author of To Kill A Mockingbird. It always amazes me that she was only in her early 30s when she wrote it.

Victoria Beckham just named her little girl that, so it might become very popular.

I think that is a great name!  It's quite beautiful and makes me picture a bold young woman, travelling the world having all sorts of adventures... okay, so maybe that sounds funny, but that's totally what it made me think of.

I LOVE it! It's in my top 5 girl names for sure :) I do agree that it may become a little popular now though because of the Beckhams (but I love the Beckhams so personally I wouldn't care at all lol).

It's getting really popular. It was on my brother's short list for their last girl, and then a cousin of ours and one of his friends named their daughter that.   It's cute I mean Posh Spice gave it to their daughter.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I didn't know that Victoria named her baby that! But we aren't trying for at least two years so hopefully if it becomes popular, it will die down by then :)

Apparently my opinion's unpopular, but I'm not a huge fan. I think it's okay, I don't think it's a bad name, but I know so many mothers that in the last few years have named their girl Harper. It's already kind of old for me.

I like it. I wouldn't use it because of the popularity factor and the fact it would sound weird with FI's last name, but I do think it's really cute. I love that it's not one of the -leigh -ly names that keep popping up in my FB feed whenever someone gets pregnant. Lol

I have to agree, I got hooked on it after reading To Kill A Mockingbird in high school. If we have another girl, her name will be Harper Quinn.
Damn Posh Spice, making it all popular. Haha. My only concern is people calling her Harpie. Not a nice thing. Lol.

@Tswife4ever: It could be. I live in the Midwest so we're not exactly trendsetters, lol. Or I just happen to be surrounded by several people who like that name. Who knows.

I like it for a name but I can't stop thinking of Steven Harper (our Prime Minister) and that makes me shudder.

@beachcandy: I hate when that happens, you get inloved with a name and someone famous uses it and it's just not fun anymore. I've picked my future little girl's name (who will hopefully show up in about 4 years) and not mentioning it to anyone but FI.

I like it a lot, but I probably wouldn't choose it for my own child because I really like more traditional and very feminine names.  However, that's just me, and I do think it's really cute!!

I named my baby girl that - my 3 year old black shih tzu.  I always name my animals after authors or literary characters so I chose Harper after Harper Lee.  So I think the Beckhams took it from me! LOL.  But I think it's an adorable name. What do you think of this girl name? : wedding Harper Christmas

@Running Elley: Thanks! Me too:) This is embarrassing but i loved the name Quinn after the girl on One Tree Hill. Haha.

We might just use the name for our 3rd and last child, boy or girl.

We have Connor Jensen, so a typical boy name.

Delaney Rose, which is pretty girly.

So we just want to do something that's just a name we like for whatever gender our next child is.

It's actually a super popular name right now, due to Tiffany Thiessen and Victoria Beckham both naming their recent baby girls Harper.

I've heard of this name, but don't know any kids who are named Harper. I think it is really cute and different, but still easy to pronounce and spell. Plus, To Kill a Mockingbird is a great novel! :)

I think most names need to sound nice with the last name, so, if it does with yours, go with what you love.

My daughter's name is Quinn, but she's 28 and the only one with her name in all her school years.
