What do you think of this tanzanite ring? I am thinking of buying it as a right hand ring, NOT an engagement ring. Opinions, pleasee! AND, if you know anything about tanzanite- how much do you think is a reasonable price to pay? The tanzanite is 2.68 carats and there are 55 diamonds for a total of 1.11 carat weight of diamonds.
I'm adding a poll, bc I am trying to negotiate with the seller and want to see what a fair price is!

I like it as a dress ring, although I wouldn't wear it day-to-day.
I love it as a RHR !! It would definately catch my attention if I saw someone wearing it ! :)
Too big for me, but I'm not a big jewelry girl hehe
It is pretty though
I think it looks cool and would make a great RHR. Do you have head-on view? Do the diamonds make a circle around the tanzanite?
I think it's a pretty cool statement ring! Not for every day wear, but I really like it.
Its too big for me, but I have small fingers. I'm also not a fan of trilliants. I do like tanzanite though...
LOVE tanzanite!! I have 3 tanzanite rings. :) I love the design of the ring, but I think it's a tad big for my taste though. I think 2-2.25 would be my size cap, but that's just personal perference. As far as price... I'm guessing that goes for something like 2k? I have no idea, but I wouldnt pay more than that.
I love tanzanite! my only complaint is often they are not very dark and dont pop against my light olive skin, but this one seems very dark and beautiful! Price ranges a lot based on the quality of the stones just like diamonds but most of the price is in the color, the darker the color the more you pay.
I have a 3.5 caret tanzanite engagement ring, so I am very biased!! It's a beautiful ring and I say if you love it, go for it!!
Honestly, I think it looks like something an 80 year old woman would wear.
@SpecialSundae: definitely agree with you, not a day-to-day ring at all
@PoeticDoveInLA: it does look very big (atleast from the photo of it on the hand)
@Juliepants: They do circle around the tanzanite (the diamonds don't actually meet at a point though)-these are the only pictures the seller has on the listing right now!
@asscherlover: I have never bought a trilliant ring before, this would be my first- so it's very different for me, I would also have to resize the ring smaller.
@pinkshoes: I love tanzanite also! This would be my second ring (the first is a round brilliant cut), agree with you on the price point
@cwat12: Yes! I have heard that too about the color. The color is actually what really catches my eye with this stone. Not sure if I loveee the cut though
This is my baby.

P.S. Sorry about the giant pictures and the monster lady bug :)
That's an awesome photo! I haven't seen a lot of Tanzanite gemstones before, the colour of yours is amazing!
@MrsvH-T: wow your ring is GORGEOUS. One of my favorite cuts, ladybug is adorable :)
I would pay 2K. We bought a loose 3ct tanzanite and it ran us about 2K this last year. They used to be cheaper, but the price has been creeping up over the last couple decades. An excellent tanzanite up to 3 ct can run almost 1K per carat. So given it's over 2ct and has over 1ct in diamonds (depending on the specs of the diamonds) I would absolutely pay over 1K for it depending on if the setting was made out of gold or silver. Try to find out if the stone is in the "vivid" range. The color intensity in a tanzanite is what gives it value. From your pics it looks like it could be but I would find out for sure because that could be a negotiating factor (similar to the color scale for diamonds).
Very pretty though. Tanzanites are one of those stones you really have to see in person - gorgeous! :)
@claireos: Thank you SO much for your response. I have heard tanzanites are SUPER rare, much more rare than diamonds which is why I was planning to buy a tanzanite ring now before the prices get higher. What type of cut tanzanite did you have? My only hesitation is that this is an unusual cut for me. I usually prefer rounds/radiants/cushions, oh and the setting is 14k gold.
Beautiful Tanzanite ring. I love tanzanite and that deep dark blue means that it is more expensive and rare than the light blue or purple color. But what ever you love, it is just preference.
The trillion is the most popular shape for Tanzanite. It tends to be the easiest to cut and has the most brilliance. A round shape is the rarest for tanzanite.
It is ture that the price if Tanzanite is going up, especially in larger carats. In the caribbean, you can get a carat of Tanzanite for 6 to 900 dollars. Unlike diamonds, the higher the carat weight, the less per carat.
Also the diamonds and the gold (especially right now) will affect the price.
I would say go for it. From the looks, it is a gorgeous grade of Tanzanite and the price for that many carats will go up in future years.
I should also say, I talk about Tanzanite and other gems for a living, but I did do my research. And compared Tanzanite in different stores in the us.
Tanzanite is much more expensive in the states, so the 6 to 900 a carat might not be an accurate selling price here. :)
Honestly, it's a gorgeous ring, but for me it would be a dress-up ring, and I couldn't stomach paying so much for something I would wear every now and then.
BUT if you can afford it, and YOU love it, go for it.
(Sorry, I know I'm no help with how much you should pay, as I know pretty much nothing about Tanzanite, but it seems there are some bees here who do :)
Not my personal style, but it does have really interesting lines!
@allergicbee: We have a cushion. And we bought for the same reason. FI's dad bought one about 10 yrs ago and got his at a fraction of the cost so we figured we'd jump now while we can - that and buying one gave us leverage negotiating for our diamond with the same guy. I loved the trillion cut in theory and almost bought one but it didn't speak to me once it was on my finger. If you aren't sure I wouldn't buy. When you're spending a lot of money on a ring you want to love it and not just go with it because it's good enough. If it's unusual for you but you still love it I would absolutely buy it if the price is right, espeically since it's a gold setting. Diamonds International sells a lot of tanzanite. Maybe check them out to get a price comparison and see if they have anything you love or if they have a store near you. (It's also who sold us our tanzanite).
@nonapkns: I wondered about the stateside price per carat as well. We bought ours in the Caribbean so I'm not 100% about what it goes for exactly in the states. I would be curious to find out though.
@allergicbee: I love tanzanite, and FH just loves it! We bought a tanzanite, rose gold and diamond necklace last year on a cruise and got it for maybe $550. But the tanzanite and diamonds were waaay smaller than your ring (which I also love as a RHR). I'd say maybe $1500 for that?
It is much rarer than a diamond. They are only mined in one place in the world and that mine can and will depeleted... there are just varying opinions on when that will be. My husband tells me that they are 1000 times rarer than a diamond, but I can not say with certaninty that it is a fact. :)
@nonapkns: Ahhh, thank you! When I was studying abroad, I saw so many jewelery stores advertising tanzanite that I just assumed it was much more polpular in that region due to differing tastes. I had no idea--it must have been relative proximity to the mining area.
@nonapkns: yay, I am so happy that you responded! It does seem you know a lot about tanzanite. I have also heard they are 1000 times more rare than a diamond! I think I am going to buy it- the seller has an appraisal of $6040, but the asking price is literally a fraction of the appraisal value. My only hesitation was that I noticed tanzanite rings on ebay selling for much less than what I thought the value per carat of tanzanite should be (as you mentioned between 6-900)-- they claim to be naturally mined but I wonder if they are really lab created.
@claireos: thanks for the link! So funny you posted that site, because that's the exact site I was reading through before I posted on here..can you post pictures of your cushion cut?
Its a gorgeous ring at any age lol! Awesome cocktail ring.
Have you done internet research on its worth? That might be the best place to look. You aren't likely to get a large enough pool of people educated on this stone here.
I would totally rock that ring! Love it! :-)
It looks like costume jewelry to me. I would not spend more than $10 on it..even if it is real and rare.
@leafgum: thanks for being honest, but the fact that you wouldn't spend more than $10 when there is atleast $150 worth of scrap gold in the band; doesn't exactly make much sense to me, but to each their own.
Sorry but it really doesn't "turn my crank" as my mother would say. I am a huge video game nerd and any time I see anything with a triangle I can't help but think Legend of Zelda. That being said if it had a round stone I would probably like it more.
@mkathleenwhite: loll ur funny! I am still unsure about it...depending on how the seller reponds to my counteroffer will determine whether or not I buy it. I may just buy it as an investment if anything.
