The Kitchen Aid Mixer. The truly ubiquitous item on wedding registries everywhere. But bees, I ask you – just what the heck does one do with a Kitchen Aid Mixer??? FI asked me this question when we were looking at items to put on our registry – and I realized I didn’t really have a good answer for him. Where it costs sooo much, we left it off for now.
So ladies – if you own The Mixer or want The Mixer, what do you use it for?
I bake and cook a lot from scratch, if that helps.

We use ours a lot. I use it for tons of baking things–mixing batter for cakes, cookies, etc, making whipped cream, making frosting, etc. I personally think it makes baking really easy and don’t know what I did before we had it! We also use it to make mashed potatoes.

It simplifies baking a ton!! They are pricey though…so I can see the hesitation (we got ours as a christmas gift last year). We cook from scratch alot as well, so its nice for mixing up bread dough, we have the pasta attachment so we make all of our own pasta…and the list goes on hah…some of the attachments are awesome!

I use it every time I bake, which is a lot. Mixing cake or cookie batter, whipping egg whites or cream, making pie dough, making bread dough. We’ve registered for attachments so I can roll out and cut pasta with it. To me it is indispensable because I love to cook and bake and do it all the time, but if you don’t, you don’t need it.

If you bake… you have never truly baked until you use one of these suckers. Makes life SOOOO much easier and faster! If you are hesitant bc of the big price tag, you could always just register for the Classic, which is often under $200 (especially during the holiday sales!)

Ahhhh the kitchenaid mixer
I love love love my mixer. We use it for everything. It’s great for baking, making mashed potatoes, mixing cheese balls and appetizers that are cream-cheese stuffed/based. I generally use it for everything I used to make my husband mix!
Ramen had a good suggestion with the Classic too, which is cheaper. If you can find it, I would recommend the Ultra Power – it’s a step up from the classic (300w vs 250w) but a step down from the Artisan. I think it only comes in white and black, but I have the white one and I love it. I think we ended up getting it (on sale and with our linens & things completion) for $230CDN. Although I did have to get the pour shield separately. It’s fab!

I use it for baking, whipping cream, making ice cream (that needs a special attachment), making bread, etc. It’s great!

We use ours to make pizza dough, mashed potatoes, brownies, cakes, making sausage, (I know, a little weird.) If you’re a baker, you’ll love it. I have my mom’s, and it’s 15 years old- looks exactly the same and still works perfectly.
I guess the other way to look at it is that you’ll be making larger quanitites of food probably?

I am using it right now in the soup-making process for Thanksgiving! I love mine! Had it for 13 years now and still goin’ strong.

I JUST created our registry and added the KitchenAid mixer to it, hahaha! I don’t bake often, but I’ve convinced myself that I will use it if we get it! It looks so fun– I’m sure I can come up with uses for it! 😉

Thanks guys! I love to bake, so it sounds like it would make my life a lot easier. We are really short on space right now, so that is another concern. Perhaps I might use our registry discount to purchase it after the wedding, as we will likely be moving to a larger place that can accomodate the glory that is KitchenAid 🙂 At least I have some justification for FI now – he will get to sample the goodness from all my baking!
