    hello bees

i don't know why i didn't think of this, but what does your dad wear to give you away?  would he wear a tux or a suit?

It depends on the feel of your wedding and what the bridal party is wearing.  Sometimes FOBs wear the same tux/suit as the groom and GMs, especially if you're renting them.

You can differentiate your dad by having him wear a different vest/tie and boutonierre.

Or you can have him wear something entirely different.  Just make sure it coordinates with the style you want.

For my sister's wedding, my dad wore a tux.  So did the groom and the groomsmen.  For my wedding, FI is wearing a nice suit, as is his brother who is standing up for him.  My dad will also wear a nice suit.

The only real traditional rule is that the FOB is dressed up at least as much as the groomsmen. So if they GM's wear suits, the FOB can wear a similar suit or a tux of his choice.

dad definitely doesn't have to wear a tux (like the rest of the bridal party) if the formality level doesn't call for it.

Yes - the thing is that your dad should be at the same level of formality.  So if the groom is in a suit, and the GMs are in suits, dad definately should not wear a tux!!

For our wedding, the father of the bride, father of the groom, and stepfather of the bride will all be wearing tuxes that match the groom/groomsmen.  The fathers are just designated by a different color boutonierre.

Well it depends on how casual or formal your wedding is.  If it's formal, then go with a tux.  If it's less formal, go with a suit.  Just remember that your dad matches what your future husband and groomsmen will be wearing.  I hope that helps.
