Does he need to wear an ivory shirt with his black tuxedo and red/burgundy vest and tie?  What do people normally do?

These days ivory is such a common color that most tuxedo places that you're renting or buying from have ivory as an option and there's no additional cost.  I wore an ivory dress and my husband wore an ivory shirt, vest and tie (vest and tie were pattern to create contrast.)

I have been to weddings where the bride wore ivory and the groom wore a white shirt. While you can certainly see the difference between the ivory and white (especially close up) it in no way looks bad. I would say if you can get an ivory shirt, do it, but if you can't, white isn't that far off.

My dress was called "Ivory with champagne overlay".  My husband wore a white shirt because in contrast to my dress - the "ivory" shirts offered were much too yellow.  You'll really need to go look at the shirts to compare the shades against your dress

I don't think there is anything wrong with him wearing a white shirt with you in an ivory dress. That's what we will be doing. He will have an ivory vest and tie.

i thought the ivory shirts at my tux place looked gross. and i had to endure a fairly heated debate with the salesman there who insisted that my ivory dress would look dirty if the guys wore white shirts and just would not let it rest. but i stood my ground...

anyways, i just got my pro pics back, and i promise that my dress in no way looks dirty. when i take the time to think about the color difference at all (which I hadn't thought to look for until this post), my dress looks beautifully ivory and the guys look classic with their black/white combo.

I also had an ivory dress (actually diamond white, which is a sort of  cream color).  We looked at ivory shirts, but they all were much yellower than my dress.  DH wore a white shirt, and it looked just fine.  If you think about it, in the majority of the photos he's going to have his tux jacket or at least his vest on, so it's not like there is going to be a bunch of his shirt right up against your dress.  Our photos, even the more casual ones from later in the night when he wasn't wearing his jacket, look great.

I think it depends on how much of a yellow tone your ivory dress has. My dress is an ivory but a very light, calm ivory. The men will be wearing the color "candlelight" - it is basically the same thing.

I am wearing ivory, and the groom is wearing a white shirt.  All our table linnens are white too, but I am not concerned.  Ivory does not look dirty just because it is not white, so you will be fine either way.

I'm wearing Davids Bridal Ivory. I took a picture with a manequin with a white shirt to make sure it didn't clash... I don't think it did... heres the link ot my wedding planning site, the pic is on there so you can judge for yourself.

My wedding colors are actually green and white because I like the clean, simple look to it. The girls have green dresses with white trim and the guys are wearing white shirts w/ green ties w/ their tan suits (the green is a yellow-green, so we thought the warmth of the color would look better with a tan suit). My ivory dress is nowhere near white, but the colors all seem to work together very well.

At the Men's Wearhouse, their ivory shirts were REALLY yellow looking. Not so much the classic ivory I was thinking about.

I had 3 ivory gowns, each a different "ivory" shade. We were caught up for a while trying to decide what looked best, but in the end we arranged to have DH in a white shirt and have an ivory vest. It looked great in pictures and in person. No regrets there! His jacket and pants were black.

In your case, I think a white shirt and a burgundy vest and tie are perfectly fine. No one will notice the difference at all.

I wore ivory and so did my groom.  He wore both an ivory vest and shirt.  We didn't try to match exactly, but i think we looked good:

A classic tux has a white shirt. You won't see james bond in ivory. You pretty much find ivory tux shirts at rent-a-tux stores and the semi-trained sales guys are the ones pushing that "dirty dress" myth.

I don't think ivory shirts look particularly bad when they are with an ivory vest, but if the vest isn't ivory I can't think of a good reason to not wear a white shirt.

We are going with a white shirt and ivory vest for him and an ivory dress for me:) The rest of the groomsmen will wear white shirts and brown vests.
