@Jilliebean1:  I have read that tests can vary due to different dye batches, but to be honest I would be worried as well. 🙁 I would call your doc. If you say that you are worried and want an appointment, they should give you one immediately. If they don’t, find someone who will! Everything may be just fine, but I would see a doctor and get an answer now so you don’t have to wait and wonder.

Good luck, FX for you!

Hopefully it means nothing. You might want to call the doctor for the blood test. But it is possible that you’re having a chemical pregnancy/really early miscarriage. Unfortunately that’s the downside of testing early. I’ve heard that a huge number of pregnancies end in miscarriage because of genetic mishaps, etc but that we don’t usually notice them because it happens without AF being “late” by much.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I too have heard about the varying dye lots. I think right now you need to adopt the attitude that “a line is a line,” because worrying about it isn’t going to help you. Destress yourself as much as possible.

Also, do you know how your husband’s insurance deals with pre-existing pregnancies? Hopefully you would have such an early pregnancy that it shouldn’t matter, but I’d hate for you guys to get screwed by the insurance company.

Could you go to a free clinic or planned parenthood or something like that to get a serum HCG level drawn?

@Jilliebean1:  I agree it’s scary that they’re getting lighter…but you said you were taking them at varying times in the day?  At this early sometimes people don’t get lines at all!  I would make all contingencies equal and retest.  For example stop drinking anything a couple hours before you plan to go to bed so you know you won’t be getting up in the night, and then test with your first pee of the morning for a few days.  That’s what I would do just so I felt pro-active in the waiting game, but unfortunately all you can do it wait :/

Edited to add***  After I reached the point where the test line became darker than the control it looked like they started getting lighter.  I asked my doctor and she said I was asking the test to do something it isn’t meant to do.  They’re made to tell you IF you’re pregnant, not HOW pregnant.  So don’t lose hope yet.  Dye lots do vary and a line is a line is a line.

I second AutumnMrs that this could also be explained by taking tests at different times of the day and different concentrations of HCG and diluted urine. I would try to only take tests with FMU and then compare.

There’s also a “thing” with pregnancy tests, that once you have so much of the pregnancy hormones in you, the tests paradoxically get lighter. If you were to take the test with diluted urine, it’d probably show up super dark again. Just like your first tests when you had less hormone. I can’t remember the name of the effect…I think it starts with a “d”.

You could take two tests, and dip one test in your regular urine and another test in your regular urine mixed with water. See the difference you get.

Ah, it starts with an “h”!

So sorry, I hadn’t paid close enough attention to how many DPO you are at this point. Hopefully the music festival (MusikFest in Bethlehem by any chance?) will keep you preoccupied until you have more info.  Good luck….!

First, congratulations on your BFP!

Second, Stop testing 🙂 It’ll drive you crazy. The lines are sometimes lighter/darker and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrrong!

Will your doctor do a beta to ease your mind, by chance?
