I need some inspiration. Our wedding isn’t themed, it is in January and our colors are burgundy/ruby, gold and ivory. We are having it in downtown Philadelphia. I guess the look we are going for in classic and elegant, but the only pictures I’ve seen in magazines are too….kitschy? At least for me. Anyone have any ideas or want to post their own cake pics??

I’m always happy to show off our gorgeous (and YUMMY) cake!
It’s buttercreme icing and I loved the quilted effect she got (and the color dots were a great accent!)

We are only having a small cake for ceremony purposes than will have a dessert table with an assortment of small desserts such as mini cheesecake slices, chocolate torte, truffles, fruit, tarts etc.
The small cake is being designed and arranged by my FI. Its one of his jobs so I have no idea what it will look like!

Here’s ours! It was made by Liz Marden in Hockessin, DE and it was delicious. (Three different flavors, all buttercream, no fondant.)

Here was ours. They matched the vine detail to our color and it was buttercream and not fondant. It was delicious!

Here are the inspiration pictures that our cake is being designed after. We wanted to use buttercream frosting and are doing black ribbon and a few purple/burgundy flowers at the top and near the bottom. I like the un-proportional height of the layers – I think that makes it look a little more modern and slightly less traditional, although still elegant and simple.

I loved our cake –

we didn’t have an official theme. We just went with yellow and green for out garden wedding. The stump seemed natural and the flowers were pretty! We picked the owls since they’re natural, cute and my sorority animal from school!
