Please PLEASE help me! I’ve been looking at and trying on dresses for a few months and I have no idea what to pick. I’m less than 5 months away from my wedding so I need to pick something quick.
We’re getting married in New Orleans so I want my dress to fit the city as well as my eccentric personality. I want something fun, frilly, girly, but not princessy. The hard part is that I’m 5’2″ so I have to be careful not to get a dress that overpowers me. Also, given my health issues and not being able to stand or walk too much, I don’t want anything uncomfortable to sit in or too heavy that will wear me down. All of my dress shopping has been with my fiance or alone for the most part so I’m asking you all for help! 🙂
So here are my choices:
1. Mori Lee 5101 – I LOVE the ombre but the dress feels a little heavy. I can remove some of the crinoline to lighten it up some though.
2. WToo 15558 – Like this one a lot but I want a longer train. BUT it’s really light and comfortable.
3. Unknown Style – Love this dress too but I don’t remember who makes it and the dress shop is 3 hours away and I don’t feel like driving. 🙁
4. Maggie Sotterro Divina – Great dress!! Just heavy too
5. David’s Bridal T3505 – This was my 1st choice at first because I want to show my shoes and a little leg. (Torn between 3 glittery shoes… Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade. Maybe my next poll). But I think the dropped waist makes me look short and it looks a little cheap in person.
6. Alfred Angelo Disney 215 – I love the bling and almost ordered this one but something about the cut makes me look heavy in the midsection.

My favorites are dress 2 and dress 4, they show off your figure beautifully ! However, my safe choice would be dress 2. The alterations (since you’re 5’2) won’t really change the overall look of the dress ; but I’m afraid it might unbalance your silhouette when they cut dress 4 to your height (and especially if you’re going to wear flats). It might look like you are shorter than you actually are.
Honestly these are all beautiful choices, but both for how flattering it looks on you and for the practical aspect of it (what it will look like after alteration) my heart is set on dress 2. 🙂

I REALLY like number 2, it looks like it fits you perfectly and is stunning but not over the top.
Would you consider a cathedral length veil as a substitute for a longer train? Out of all the dresses I tried on, I felt like it was the train that made dresses heavy And harder to move in.

I voted #6 but on second thought, love #2 more. I think you have all terrific dresses to choose from, and they seem to fit well with your “wants” list!

#2 makes your figure look divine – and you said it is light. I have health issues that affect my dress choice, too, so I get how important that is. You want to feel good on that day!

- Wedding: October 2013 - Dalhousie Castle
Have you tried any that are a true mermaid style? I think you have the figure for it and it would really show off your curves.

@justnaturallyme: 2 is my fave, but 3 is a fairly close second. Although, the hi/lo dress is cute, it’s not as classic/yet modern as the others, it’s more trendy. I’d say narrow it down to two and make a t-chart with th pros and cons. You don’t have much time so I know you must be excited yet a little stressed. Get this off your plate so you’ll have it in time. Good luck and Congrats!

#3 is my favorite, and #4 is my second favorite!

@justnaturallyme: The second one looks all sorts of amazing on you!

I love the Maggie Soterro Divina on you, so I voted for that one. It’s really an amazing dress. However, I also love the second dress — the WToo — and it’s lighter and more comfortable given your health issues. If you can get beyond the fact that you wish it had a longer train, this would be a wonderful choice for you.

I don’t care for 3,5, or 6. I do love the train on 1 and 4 but if you’re uncomfortable I wouldn’t go with them – they would make great pictures though. I think 2 is a good choice for comfort, and it’s super cute too. Also, your train is going to be bustled 90% of the time anyway right? So why not go with the cute one that’s comfortable too? Final word: 2 and 4 are my favorite. Good luck!

I think the Dulconee is most flattering you, followed by the Divina. It sounds like the Dulconee will be easier for you to wear. Honestly I don’t like the ombre one at all, I’m sure it’s pretty in real life but in photos it just tends to look kind of dirty.

Thank you all for your advice!! I went and tried on the Mori Lee again and really liked it. I also tried on a mermaid dress like someone suggested and it looked great!! Then I tried on the WToo dress and just then I knew you all were absolutely right! It is perfect for my special day. So…. WToo Dulconee is the dress that I will become the Mrs. in!!
I lucked up on a sample that was in great condition and fit me perfectly so I got an okay deal on it. Just needs to be hemmed and taken out in the hips a little to accommodate all my curves. 🙂
I can’t WAIT!!!
