Just wondering what kind of diversity we have here in the hive!
I sure hope I'm remembering all of the options!
I said that my SO is the same ethnicity as me, but he might argue that point. He claims that "Ginger" is its own ethnicity.
Both my parents were adopted, so I have no idea! "White," but I have no claimed ethnicity. People take that kind of thing for granted. If you know what you are, celebrate your roots!
My dad is African American, and he did one of those DNA kits and discovered he's also Norwegian and native American (he knew that one).
My mom is third generation Russian on her mother's side, but her dad had a Spaniard mom and a Lithuanian dad. My grandma recently decided to start investigating which ethnic group in Russia her parents came from, because she thinks there might be Asian influence.
So I'm black/european :) I have super curly brown hair, light brown eyes, and cafe au lait skin. I'm most often taken for puerto rican or greek.
Edit: DH is white, Irish on his dads side and scandinavian on his mom's. There's some NA on his mom's side somewhere, but they all have light hair and blue eyes so it's not exactly affecting the phenotype.
I'm about as pasty white as they come.
I voted that DH is the same ethnicity as me, because he mostly is, but I guess it could maybe be argued that he's mixed because he's 1/128th Cherokee. But really, he's just white.
I'm white, and FI is the first (and only) white guy I've ever been with!
For some reason I find brown skin incredibly attractive, so I always found myself dating multicultural guys. Of my 4 ex-boyfriends, one was half Mexican, one was Chinese, one was native Hawaiian, one was full Guatemalan.
FI has brown hair, freckles, and blue/green eyes. But even though I do think brown skin in beautiful, I think he's the most handsome man on the face of the planet, skin color not a factor. :)
@Ellegee: I bet that mixes to look like a whole lot of fabulous. I am African American but my skin looks Middle Eastern, my hair is wavy, my eyes look Asian, my body looks like a White girl and I have the soul and lips of an African queen. I would assume that my background is mixed with a little of everything. It would be cool to figure it out for sure though. My SO is African American.
I'm half Puerto Rican, half black. I just say I'm black.
My fiance is black.
I'm Caucasian, but my mother is from Colombia (but doesn't identify as Hispanic), and my dad is from Israel. Our family is from Eastern Europe. I'm a first generation American. I'm pale with dark hair and eyes.
FI is Caucasian (blonde and blue-eyed), and his family is from the Midwest, and beyond that, from England and Germany. Surprising, considering I dated several Hispanic guys and prefer dark skin and dark hair!
@Soladylike: Do you have brothers? Have them do the DNA thing, or even your dad! It's more accurate for men because of some chromosomal thing. They could even trace which area/tribe in Africa my dads ancestors came from.
I'm white and FI is 1/2 white, 1/2 puerto rican, but looks all puerto rican. I speak spanish though and he does not! (although his dad and grandparents do). I've never dated a white guy (2 mexican, 1 indonesian, 1 pakistani).
Race and ethnicity aren't really the same thing though they're often used interchangibly. Ethnicity is related more to culture or family heritage rather than race which is based on physical characterisitics.
I'm the same ethnicity as my SO; we grew up in the same area at the same time, belong to the middle class American families, went to the same college together... we have the same culture.
But his race is Chinese and I'm Caucasian.
He doesn't have any cultural traditions or language skills from his relatives either. He really is as ethnicly American as anyone can be.
We're ethnically similar but racially different :)
@Soladylike: I'll find out from my dad which one he did, I think it was one that put an emphasis on AA heritage - I see the DNA marker tests on livig social all the time, though!
I'm caucasian and so is the FI. We're both of European heritage, so I like to think we're really white. lol.
i figured the majority is caucasian here. well im african american, SO is eastern european/slavic. everyone just says hes *white* here in the states
I'm 1/2 Peruvian (dad) and 1/2 Puerto Rican (mom) but I most identify as Caucasian with a little extra seasoning, lol. I have two younger sisters and I've been jokingly (but lovingly) referred to as the "white" one. My FI is Caucasian (not sure of his specific ethnic background, though; I'm not even sure he knows himself!). I have always been more attracted to white guys.
@prisigtr: Caucasian with extra seasoning!!! That's exactly how I feel! I'm half Hispanic, half white. My SO is white, and Jewish on hid mother's side.
I'm caucasian but identify as Ukrainian. My SO is Ukrainian/Jewish.
The last post above me is showing up dated as -1 years ago. Dunno what that's about.
I'm as Caucasian as they come. S/O is kind of a mystery. Anyone better versed in racial classification know what race a light-skinned, native (non-Arab) North African is? Not that it matters, but I have wondered what he's going to put on the forms in the future.
Full German on my Dad's side, mutt on my mom's side, including Scottish, Irish, German, Creole, and African descent. SO is mostly Austrian, Irish, English, and French.
@worldtraveler: North African would also be Caucasian. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/caucasian
I always find it hard to answer this, as I'm Scottish on my dad's side and Ashkenazi-Jewish on my mum's. Racially, I'm white/caucasian... ethnically I'm mixed.
I'm a giant "white" mutt (german, irish, english, italian, etc) and SO is half a mutt. His mom is full russian and his dad is adopted but "white" as well. I'm really interested to learn the name of that DNA test, and actually know for sure what we are! Lol
I'm mainly Filipino but I'm also of Chinese and Spanish descent. The SO is technically Caucasian of Scottish/English/Irish descent.
I'm largely Bohemian with a bit of German on my dad's side and Austrian and German with a bit of French on my mom's. SO is half German (his dad) and half Italian (his mom). People always assume that I"m Irish because I have red hair. 1 red hair can be found in any ethnic group and 2 I have the wrong shade of red hair for it to be Irish (it's more of a coppery auburn color than traditional bright red)
@PlumeriaSplash: I was also going to post the same thing about race and ethnicity being the same thing. Hispanic isn't a race, but an ethnicity. Hispanics can be of any race. My family is from Cuba and we identify as white Hispanic.
my mother is hispanic, my father is french. I look fairly pale.
DH is about as white a white comes
I'm multi-racial. African and Arab on my dad's side and Native American, English, and German from my mom's side. I have wavy/curly dark brown hair, brown eyes, and light skin. I'm told that I look Middle Eastern or Indian, and sometimes even mistaken for Portuguese.
SO is mixed - Chinese and Japanese.
My mom is Portuguese and is from Portugal, and my dad is half French and half Portuguese. So, I am 75% Portuguese. That seems hispanic to me, but I am white, according to the experts.p
I'm an unusual hybrid- half Hispanic, half Middle Eastern, like Shakira and Salma Hayek but not nearly as hot. ;)
OMG only 2 Pacific Islander/American Indian?! Obviously not many Oklahomans on here lol
