It is too casual but at the same time what you u wear should refelect you and your partner. I personaly would not wear that for my enagement pictures which will go out to alot of people. I know for my shoot I am doing skinny jeans with a cute but sexy top for the casual playful feel kinda like a walk in the parkand then change into a dressier sexy dress with heels and my fiance will change into something on the same leveln which would be more of a date night feel to it....I say have 2 outfits that way you will have a variety.
me and fiance are just doing jeans and a nice shirt, nd of course im wearing heels with my jeans as i always do. butthats us and how we look everyday!!
Yes, it's too causal an outfit for me. BUT if that is your style, then it's perfect. I'd think "date night" attire. Something where you could run into your boss, your grandmother, or your best friend and feel comfortable and stylish. Avoid harsh colors or too busy prints.
Most people do an outfit change during the shoot, so I'd actually bring 3. That way you can edit while you're there, and your photographer might see something in an outfit that you don't.
I'd recommend:
Simple sundress + flats (always flattering and cool, the dress should photograph well)
Jeans + simple tailored shirt (blouse, t-shirt w/ some weight to it, cute tank with flattering cut, etc)
I think you should just wear whatever it is you'd normally wear. The point is the capture images of you guys being YOU. So try not to put too much thought into what you wear.
We only had 1 outfit so don't feel pressured to have multiple outfit changes if you don't want. I think a nice sundress or jeans and cute shoes are normally appropriate. Guys look good in nice kahkis and a polo I think.
We just had ours done at a fruit stand (literally on the side of the road!) and while I went to the salon earlier that day to get my hair done, I opted to do a style that I normally do but with a little more pop to it (a teased poof with curly hair). Anyway, I took that idea to my clothes as well. In the summer, I'm always in comfy capris, tank tops and flip flops. For our shoot I wore sleek black shorts, and a flowy top for the 1st outfit and a comfy tank top dress (had to be comfy since I rarely wear a dress!).
I like the idea behind our outfit but I think that what you have in the picture is way too casual. Maybe if you do the "pop" idea, it would work out?
Good luck and have fun!!
i think that might be a little bit too casual. from my experience, sleeves and longer bottoms (capris, pants, or even a knee length dress) photograph better. Even if you have the best body in the whole entire world, a photograph will always look better with not a ton of skin showing.
What about a pretty knee length sundress? That would look great on the water.
If your photos will be going out to people, you might want to dress up your outfit just a little bit more, but still stay true to your personal style.
here is an example of the two outfits my fiance and i wore for our session:

i say wear whatever feels the most like you. be comfortable. i think if you feel comfortable in your attire it will show in your mood in the pictures.
Thanks for all your suggestions guys!
I think I'm going to take a look at my dress closet (I have quite a few) and see if I can find anything... Otherwise I'm heading on vacation at a little beach town, so maybe they'll have something?

Well we're officially booked for our engagement shoot, and I am counting down to September 8 alreaday.
My biggest problem is now picking out what to wear. We're having our shoot on the local waterfront, and I visited it today to check it out. There are so many different options, ranging from a gazebo in the park, so the rocks out on the water, to the walkway overlooking the water, to the sandy beach, to the forest path, to the playground/splash pad, to the fancy restaurant with a waterfall.
We were going for a more casual atmosphere, but after putting the entire outfit together I am worried it is a little too casual. Should I opt for a second outfit? Maybe have some casual and some nicer shots?
Here is a picture (excuse the mess - we're packing).
