This morning I got up to go make some breakfast and FSIL was in the kitchen and she was wearing her most famous ensemble. A form-fitting tank top and boyshort panties. She actually wears boyshort panties as shorts and she *thinks* it looks cute. In the summer, she would actually wear these panties to public places.
Now, I'm not a thin person, by any means. I am a size 14. So, I know what I can and cannot get away with. It doesn't matter what size you are, you should never wear panties in lieu of shorts. FSIL is about a size 18-20, but she thinks she's an 8-10. She refuses to wear clothing that fits her, and that is my biggest fashion faux pas pet peeve. When someone appears to be stuffed into their clothes. FSIL's butt crack is ALWAYS hanging out of her clothes because she just refuses to wear an acutal size 18-20 pants. It makes me cringe.
So, what fashion mistakes make you crazy? I know a lot of people say saggy jeans make them nuts, but the whole squeezing into too small clothes makes me want to scream.
I hate when people wear leggings as pants. They really aren't flattering on anyone, and most of the time I can see their panties through them, and it makes me cringe.
@Pinksapphire: that drives me crazy as well!! I can't understand how you can be comfortable stuffing yourself into too small clothes and then look in the mirror and believe that you look good!
When I was still in college, I saw a lot of girls wear Uggs with bootie shorts. Not really the cutest combo.
I don't like when people wear Shape-Ups with leggings... and aren't working out. At least wear pants that balance out the bulky shoe.
@Mrs Grape: I live in a college town, and every single time I am out I see a million variations of the same outfit - black leggings, uggs, and a Mizzou shirt. I love leggings, and wear them all the time, but my ass is always covered.
I agree about the leggings. I hate when people wear pajama pants in public. I used to do it, but I have since seen the error of my ways. Work boots or dress shoes with basketball shorts. UGG BOOTS are a big one. My friend's sister was her son's Godmother, and she showed up to the christening in Ugg boots.
My roommate at college did this. I have no idea what size she was - but she was about 5'4 and probably close to 300lbs. So whatever size that is. She would always wear skintight little spaghetti strap tops and little shorts. I never dressed that skimpily and I was half her size and felt that it was it wasn't an attractive look on me, even.
But she had so many bigger problems that I couldn't stand about her......like letting her BF's drug dealer friend come stay over.......
@Lindsay12.31.2010 , I agree 100%
on top of that (or as the case may often be, as well as that) VPL or Visible Panty Line drives me nuts!
i defintely agree on the too-small clothes thing. especially with costumes! for some reason people that would normally dress in clothing that fits their body type, for wearing a costume will throw all that out the window and decide to go with something a few sizes down thinking that it will make them look thinner. no, it has the opposite effect! you would look so much better if it were the right size! plus, then you could be more comfortable and not be trying to squeeze yourself into something that simply doesn't fit! i find a lot of weight-related self-esteem issues can disappear when you're dressing to fit your body type and not being distracted by what number size you're wearing.
Socks with sandals! either wear shoes or don't wear the socks! Looks really grandad like, haha
I hate denim anything except pants.. im talking to you denim shirts, denim jackets, denim hand bags, denim shoes denim jumpsuits.. oh god ..and when people wear them all together.. I want to vomit.. denim. ALSO, people who don't dress age appropriately
@aardvark: Haha, it is often as well as that here! My DH told me the other day I had "VPL" in my dress pants. I was kind of disturbed that he knew what that was!
I don't understand guys wearing pants BELOW their butt. And then they have to waddle to keep them up while walking. I see many guys that sag their pants a little, and I'm just used to that now for the most part, not that I like it though. But when they don't even cover any of their butt it makes me wonder why they wear pants at all.
@MrsNeutrino: I agree with the denim! A girl I work with wore jeans with a denim shirt to work the other day. I cringed a little!
The obviously way too small clothing and ugg with everything about covers it for me. I cant understand why people dont understand that properly fitted clothing looks SOOOO much better than a muffin top.
So the Uggs and shorts thing kills me. It doubly kills me when I see it in January. Um, yeah, we live in Alaska, so you know it's too cold and snowy for that!
Regular bras with spaghetti straps/strapless/one-strap tops. WHY? How does someone look in the mirror and say, "Damn, this looks classy!"
Mostly I just agree with the OP, my motto is always "dress appropriately!"
I haaaate when people are wearing too tight clothes. I am a size 18. I'm aware of that. So I buy size 18. I don't think that putting on a 14 would make me look smaller, it would make me look larger. Why do people not get that?
I hate when people forget to remove the stitch from the back flap of their coat. It makes me want to secretly walk up behind them and cut it with a pair of scissors.
UGH leggings are the bane of my existence. Those are not pants! At least have the decency to wear a shirt longer than your crotch, camel toe is no ones friend.
@MrsNeutrino: I have a pair of denim shorts I looooooove. Whatever they're Sevens so they're ok right?
Way too small clothing drives me crazy. I'm not a tiny person by any means (size 12/14) but I look soooo much better when I wear clothes that are actually my size instead of trying to pretend I'm smaller.
I have a "sister in law" that REFUSES to accept the fact that she has gotten larger since highschool and having a kid. She is always buying new clothes so I know its not like she is unable to buy new clothes! She loves to stuff herself into her size 12 and 14 pants when in reality she should be wearing about 18... same with tops, she crams herself and her DDD boobs into medium sized shirts when she should be wearing XL. Her butt and boobs are always falling out and she also likes to wear booty shorts and camisoles that are way too small... disgusting. *end rant*
I am a strong believer that people should just get the right sized clothes! Not too long ago I had to go shopping because my clothes weren't fitting right and everyone thought I actually lost weight. I am possitive that it was because my clothes were fitting better because I know for a fact I haven't lost any weight!
@Pinksapphire: Oh my gosh, that sounds awful! Underwear never equals clothing, and wearing the wrong size is just unfortunate. The sad thing is, if you wear the right size, even if it's bigger than you'd like, no one will know unless you show them the tag, and you'll actually look better because your clothes will fit properly and flatter your body. But if you wear something that's too small, most people will probably notice, and your clothes won't be as flattering.
This isn't really a faux pas because so many people do it, but I hate the look of flip-flops and long pants. I think it's because the bottom of the pants always seems to get caught up in the flip-flop. Drives me nuts!
@parasol: Haha, I'm guilty of that one. I'm short, so my pants are always long on me, and my go-to combo for the warmer months is jeans + flip flops.
Black and brown combos. Black pants with a brown shirt or brown pants and black leather jacket. However, I am seeing a lot of black leggings with brown boots lately. I am not sure how I feel about it. Since I'm seeing it so much I am thinking it must be fashionable- but I still can't wrap my head around it!
But I think my biggest pet peeve is WHITE SOCKS! I'm cool with white socks if you are going to the gym or with jeans and sneakers. But I can't stand when people wear black dress pants, white socks and black shoes. Ugghhh- cringe!
leggings!
long shirts as dresses
see through clothing of any kind really, almost nothing see through looks good imo
super high heels with causal clothing--stiletto, stripper heels with shorts and a tank top
pants with stuff written on the butt. Maybe to sleep in, but not in public
strapless, strapless anything on anyone, 1 in 1,000,000,000 may pull it off, but it pretty much always looks horrific
@hisgoosiegirl: OMG - this!!!! I was at brunch last weekend and this girl came in wearing her light blue, cupcake print pajama bottoms!! I couldn't believe my eyes!
@Lolasmomma: But I can't stand when people wear black dress pants, white socks and black shoes. Ugghhh- cringe!
I secretly refer to that (in my head) as the Michael Jackson Look.
Pajama pants in public, leggings with a shirt that doesn't cover your butt, and clothing that is too small. All of those make me cringe. Also even though it isn't really a faux pas I don't like skinny jeans with sneakers. I only wear mine with tall boots or flip flops. That's more of a personal preferance thing though.
@louisianablue, THIS! Hahaha I had to convince Mr. Aardvark that it was ok to take the stitches out of his pockets!
Haha the wearing shirts as dress comment makes me think of this picture. wtf!

The queen of fashion faux-pas!
I agree with all of these.
Although I will admit I own uggs, but I only wear them with pants when it's cold outside.
Also, camel toe... I mean even if you don't have a full length mirror, you have to FEEL that!
colored denim. I read somewhere that jewel tone denim was coming back in (i havent seen it a whole lot so i really dont know). I dont think you should wear red jeans after the age of like 5 and really even then its iffy lol. I also have a problem with this even more so when people wear all one color, red jeans with a red shirt and shoes that have red in them and sometimes even throw red jewelry on top of it. im sorry if this offends anyone but i just do not like colored jeans. i feel like they should be some "normal" denim color and thats it. no colors.
I also dont like when people where jackets that are too short. like when girls where the puffer coats in the winter that only cover part of their stomachs and dont even reach their hips. what is the point? its a coat! its supposed to keep you warm. how is that keeping you warm? so weird. and its not flattering on anyone if you ask me. it looks like they are trying to fit themselves into a little kids coat.
