Have you tried Chiobani yogurt? It has a consistency more like ice cream.
I just drop my yougurt into a smoothie (banana, blueberry, raspberry, milk and yogurt = yum)
I hate health food. I am a junk food addict. It is terrible. I force myself to eat freaky healthy soups and dahl, even though it is kinda gross.
Just as an FYI, most flavored yogurt (like Dannon or Yoplait) isn't that great for you-- it's full of sugar. But, SoontobeMrsA is right, Chobani is great-- super high in protein and less sugar than Dannon or Yoplait.
Does water count? I hate drinking water, but I make myself do it anyway. Mostly for my skin's sake, because I'm vain.
We do plain yogurt which is why it's even more gross.
Thanks! That consistency sounds much better...I'll look for Chobani the next time we're at the grocery store.
Water totally counts! I definitely do not get my recommended amount daily...
I'm with you on yoghurt. And I do eat chobani, that's the only one that I can handle. It's just something I never liked. Right now I'm trying to cut out sugar, so I eat the plain chobani for breakfast. Blech!
Gerbera-try the strawberry and blueberry ones. I like pomegranite but it's a bit tart.
I;m with you on yogurt. Ive been eating it as my snack in the afternoon but its just so gross.
Im also not a big fan of milk. I drink it and use it in my oatmeal but Im just not a fan. But I know its good for my bones so I drink it anyways.
It's not a food, but I just started taking a fish-oil supplement that totally grosses me out. Doesn't really bother me in the morning.. but last night, I took another one at night and then I burped. OMG - so nasty.
I typically try to stay away from foods that gross me out - I figure my body actually DOES know why it doesn't want that item. Fortunately, most veggies and protein based foods are fine.
I'm in the yogurt loving camp, but stopped eating it because of the high sugar content and I didn't like the unsweetened greek-style ones. I'll get my calcium and protein from other sources, gladly!
None. There's so many healthy foods out there I love (or acquired a taste for as I got older, or learned to prepare in a super tasty way).
I also find yogurt disgusting. Totally horrifyingly disgusting. I refuse to eat it and don't even like being in the same room as it. For a long time I felt guilty about this, but I got over it. There's nothing out there so amazingly healthy that we have to be eating it. Unless you hate all vegetables (in which case you need to learn to roast broccoli and cauliflower because omg so tasty).
I eat the plain fage 0% greek yogurt because of all the protein they have, but they taste gross--sour and no flavor whatsoever! I try to put banana or other fruit in it, which helps somewhat.
I'm lucky in that I love love LOVE broccoli, greek yogurt, sushi, wheat grass... grapefruits are a favorite, and I love brussel sprouts, alfalfa, any fruit or veggie really, green tea and almonds.
I however can't stand oatmeal (but force it down occasionally) and plain water. Gross. If I do drink it, it has to be practically freezing cold or I feel sloshy.
Grapefruit and yogurt are the ones I cant stand but I know they are healthy. I try to eat half a grapefruit every other day. but I want to add a ton of sugar on it.. =(
I'm impressed with your discipline!! if I don't like a food, I will try it every once in awhile to see if I still don't like it, and as an adult I've developed tastes for foods I hated as a child - tomatoes and mushrooms come to mind. But I won't regularly eat something I strongly dislike.
Luckily for me, most of the things I strongly dislike are bad for you - sour cream, alfredo sauce, cheesecake, whipped cream, mayonnaise, runny cheeses. Anything with that particular creamy texture just makes me want to hurl. Unfortunately, yogurt falls in this category for me - I just can't do it.
Aside from yogurt, I like most foods that are good for you - dark leafy greens, legumes, whole grains, berries, nuts, skim milk (I prefer it to whole or 2%), etc. So I don't have to struggle too much.
Edit - oh, I just thought of one! Vitamins. There's something about the way they smell that I HATE. As a result I would buy a bottle, take them for a few days, and then stop. But I recently discovered that CVS's generic women's vitamins don't have the same weird smell, and I've been taking one every night. It's important for me to do that because as a vegetarian I risk not getting enough iron and B-vitamins.
You know what's great? Mixing unsweetened 100% cran juice with plain sparkling water. To me that makes it much more palatable, and you still get the same benefit.
@mightywombat: I have the same issue with any semi-liquid dairy type thing. That's why I won't eat yogurt but it's also why I won't eat ice cream or sour cream or cheesecake. I won't touch skim milk with a 10 foot pole though. Ew milk ew.
Which is not really relevant but I had to share my OMG GROSS.
lol!!! It's funny - I can't explain why I'm so inconsistent about which creamy foods I will eat and which I won't. For some reason, ice cream just doesn't have the consistency that bothers me so much in the other creamy, full-fat dairy products.
This technically isn't food, but I take cod liver oil every day...yuck.

Are there foods out there with amazing health benefits that you force yourself to eat because you know it's really good for you?
What is it?
And why do you hate it?
And what are the health benefits, provide links if possible so we can all educate ourselves! :)
---
For me, it's yogurt.
I hate the way it tastes, it tastes like milk gone bad. Blegh.
But, alas, it is really good for me so I have been forcing myself to eat a spoonful a day. Today I'm being brave and eating a whole 8oz....
Here and here are some links talking about the health benefits of yogurt.
