im giving out a mini garden!
sounds silly but i put a mini flower pot, a peat pellet (mini compresssed dirt things) and a card printed on plantable paper in each box. the papers had instructions on how to plant them. the dirt wont spill and nothing will grow so they can plant it when they get home and have a little keepsake that will last them a little while and the pot is re usable!
For me it was pretty much anything edible
- homemade pie-in-a-jar (awesome btw)
- candy bar bags to fill and take home
- Cocoa mix in a jar with marshmellows
- homemade jam/jelly/fresh honey
- chocolate dipped pretzels
- cake balls packaged together
- cinnamon buns for next morning
- hot sauce!
- packaged cookies
I traveled to many weddings and it gave me something to nibble on later during my trip back home! Oh and my favorite was the hot cocoa in a mason jar. I thought of the couple everytime I made it, it was delish!
How sweet!
We are having little glass jars of fresh honey, with a cute swing tag and maybe a square of material on top to make them look cute. My uncle and aunty own their own bee farm so we are getting the fresh summer honey a week or 2 before the wedding :)
I got pizza cutters for the women and baby flash lights for the men. On both I have the date of the wedding
Maybe make a donation to a charity?
We're making a donation to Canuck Place, Its a hospice for kids. My FI and I are both pediatric oncology nurses and this only makes sense for us.
My favorite favor that I received as a guest was a beautiful pashmina. The bride brought them back from a trip to India. They are of excellent quality and I use it all the time.
Other than that, my vote goes to anything edible. No matter how cute we all think those personalized chachkas are, most are not even taken home from the wedding and those that are often end up in a box for a garage sale, or the junk drawer.
If you want something to honor your heritage, you could do little jars of spices, Mexican candy, mini jars of salsa or tabasco, mexican wedding cookies, or Mexican coffee.
We are planning to give out personalized shot glasses with our names and the wedding date. I'm polish so my family likes vodka and the FI is spanish so it makes sense and people will use them and hopefully they will last a long time (if noone breaks them, lol). I once recieved a beer mug that was personalized when I was a flower girl so it gave me the idea.
We gave drinking jars (the mason jars with handles) as our favor. Everyone drank out of them at the wedding and took them home afterward.
Thanks for all the great ideas!! I'm definitely leaning towards the food option, and if we have leftovers...we'll be able to eat them the next day :)
I'm personally not a fan of favors. However, if you consider the photobooth a favor, then that's been my favorite. I've had a great time collecting the little strips of pictures of FI, myself and our friends at various weddings.
@Auds424: They make tequila flavored lollipops that don't have alcohol in them. Some even have the worm!! It would be cute I think, just add a little paper tag.
We are doing smores on a stick with a jumbo marshmallow dipped in chocolate, rolled in graham cracker crumbs and tied with twine and a "thank you" gift tag. Cheap, and can be made ahead of time.
I saw some personalized hot sauce bottles on The Knot that would be cute!

Hi Bees,
So, I thought I had discovered the most perfect wedding favor idea....mini DIY tequila bottles. My family is from Mexico and I thought it was so orginal! Unfortunately, my venue won't allow hard alcohol to be served...or even given as a gift (I thought I could fudge the no hard-A rule via a wedding favor, but that was a total bust!) I'm now back to the drawing board!
Have any of you seen or used creative and or different wedding favors at a reception? I had loved the idea of giving out little succulents with the escort cards, but about half of our guests will be from out of town...flying with those would be kind of a pain.
I guess I'm looking for something that:
A. Not your typical wedding favor
B. Easy to bring back home in your luggage
C. People might actually want to keep it...I've been to some weddings, where the gift is very cute, but it's not practical.
I'd really appreciate any ideas...:)
Thanks!
