I have been reading these boards for a while and thus far have not had any issues that I needed help with, however, as of today I do!
A tiny bit of background, I got engaged last March and from then (well, really from a while before that) I knew our wedding colours would be grey and magenta.
My Maid/Matron of Honor designed all of our invites etc with grey paper and magenta coloured orchids – totally beautiful and I knoew for my flowers, I, obviously, wanted magenta and similar shades. We had an initial consultation with our florist (the same one my sister in law used a few years ago) last July and we explained the colours, the very important specific types of flowers and the general decoration plan (long tables with clear glass vases with one type of flower filled in each). For the past few months I have been trying to get my florist to show me exactly what type of flowers (and colours) would be used. I had sent some examples and she replied back – well that isn’t magenta, that is purple-pink and those aren’t the type of flowers we discussed (she had named random flowers I had never heard of and we seemed to not be on the same page regarding what magenta exactly is).
Cut to last week – she finally sent 13 pictures of the flower types and shades she would be using and only TWO were magenta, the rest were blush or rose coloured and our main orchids – that formed the basis of everything weren’t even there! Suffice it to say I was completely shocked, and on the verge of becoming a total bridezilla. Luckily my wonderful fiance totally agreed with me and encouraged to write back with pictures of the shades and types of flowers we wanted (and had initially discussed).
She responded today with:
I’m sure with your wedding date coming closer that you are getting excited – it is an exciting time. But I am thoroughly confused! Since your contract was signed over 7 months ago, it seems as if you are wanting to make changes to what you signed as a contract in October as well as what we talked about during your consultation. I have included a copy of the signed contract as well as my notes from your consultation so that you can have a refresher. I will do my best to make the changes you have asked for, but please keep in mind that your flowers have been ordered for months and I cannot promise anything.
As an aside, the flower colours you have listed below (magenta, medium pink, fuschia, purple-pink, hot pink) are not the same at all, nor are they even compatible with each other. Also, the photo you sent is actually a Commercial, not a chrysanthemum. It is not pink, but lavender and is not the kind of chrysanthemum that is included in your contract. We had specifically looked at chrysanthemums (which come in sprays) so that they would fill the vase nicely, but not overpack it. The Commericals, Footballs or Fuji’s do not come in hot pink or medium pink. They only come in white, yellow or lavender and must be hand-tied if you wish them to be pink.
I am seriously concerned that you have lost the trust in me and that you do not have confidence in my capacilibites or my communication skills. If you would prefer to find another florist to do your wedding I would be willing to refund your deposit.
What on earth am I supposed to do about this???
I also love how she offers to refund my money – like I am going to find another florist less then 2 months before my wedding!
I am currently in England for school and my fiance is in Toronto – he is busy today and hasn’t had a chance to check my numerous e-mails or texts so i am totally freaking out!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
