Hi there! I'm a 9.10.11 bride. We are having a destination wedding in Vermont (we are both from California). So far, I have ordered my dress, we have picked a venue but we still need to pay the deposit. We have picked a cake and florist, but are still waiting to pay those deposits as well. We are planning on sitting down this weekend to get those checks out. Oh, and we also have our wedding planner. This was the first thing we did since we are having a destination wedding.
We have also designed our STD's, since we want to send them out in September to give people LOTS of time to make travel arrangements.
Don't be afriad to book things if you love them! This time last year I had all of the major vendors taken care of. There is no shame in booking early ... sometimes you have to!
And take it from me, the time will fly by and you will be SO GLAD you got things done in advance!!
We found out venue this past weekend and are in the process of sending the deposit and signing the contract. With the venue comes the date, the rentals, and the caterer.
I think we've known who would be in the wedding party for awhile, but now we get to actually tell them (except for my maid of honor... I was the maid of honor in her wedding last Spring and told her a few months ago that I wanted her to be in mine).
I went dress shopping once with a friend who is also engaged, but with zero intention of buying. Now I'm going with my Mom and maid of honor, more seriously.
Next steps are photographer and save-the-dates. Like Leah, we're doing a weddnig that will involve a lot of coast-to-coast travel, so we'll probably send them later this summer. Once we get that done, though, we're probably covered for awhile, since we don't really want a lot of things (florist, cake, video, officiant). It will probably feel weird to have such a long engagement, but considering our venue was pretty booked over a year ahead, it's 100% worth it.
ETA: I guess I should also update my weddingbee to reflect my ACTUAL wedding date and location! Put that in the "not done yet" list.
So far we have booked the venue (ceremony & reception), photographer and DOC. Save the Date's are figured out and I'm going to order in a few weeks - its a destination wedding, so I want to send them out way early. I plan to start dress shopping when my mom comes to visit in September. I'm waiting to move on the other big things like florist, officiant, cupcakes - though we have been "taste testing" - until it gets closer. Right now, I'm researching and thinking over options for decor, lay out of reception site... I call it "marinating" haha I have to let things soak in before I'm ready to make a decision.
@LeahP: Oooo where in VT are you getting married? I am a 9.17.11 bride and I am getting married in VT too! We're in NY so it's not as much of a destination for us as it is for you!
Oops I forgot to answer the original question. I think I've found my dress but haven't purchased it yet...going back for a second appt on Friday. We're meeting with a photographer tomorrow. I'm checking out venues at the beginning of July. We've already designated our wedding party and had an engagement photo shoot.
September 3 here!
So far we've got the church and the reception (we have deep connections to both), and we've just booked the photographer.
I'm hoping to choose my dress, as well as book the caterer this summer, but besides that, we've got all the big stuff :)
@Ceamoste: We're date twins!
I've booked the church, reception, caterer, photographer and ordered my dress. FI and I got all the big things out of the way. Slowly but surely i've started buying bridemaid gifts. I'm making them like a tote full of goodies! :)
I'm so excited!
I've decided on my theme - rustic, raw cotton,
Color palette - ivory, peach, light green, navy blue and brown
Bridal party, groomsmen
Paid the deposit for the venue, and thus picked a date (September 26, 2011)
Booked my florist and photographer
Next month, we're (my girls and I) are going to start some of the DIY projects. There are A LOTTTTT of them. I'm excited to start that part :)
It's so nice to hear what other September 2011 brides are up to. Sometimes I feel like I'm starting too early, but I'm such a planner that it's hard not too. We picked our venue this past weekend and we are in the process of signing a contract for September 24th.
I am researching caterers now and hope to do some tastings in August. I'm also looking into DJs and photographers as well. There's a photographer that I have my heart set on, so I should book her early! I'm very excited to go dress shopping and my Mom is going to come out in August to go with me.
9.10.11 Maine bride here - in Bar Harbor, which will be a trip for most people so we want to get things out early. We booked the venue (ceremony and reception), and the photographer, and have narrowed a list of cake/flower people to meet with when we're there this fall. We also made a list of what we want to do with Maine-themed gift bags. that's about it! now - dresses, wedding party stuff, and invitations.
@FutureSpice: We are getting married in Windsor (near Woodstock) at Juniper Hill Inn. It is absolutely beautiful! Where are you guys doing it?
We also have the venue (which also provides the food), photographer and wedding colors/theme. We have also asked our wedding party. I have started trying on dresses, but am not quite ready to commit to any of them yet. Plus, I have a couple more groups of friends that want to go dress shopping with me. Next step is the cake and officiant! It is nice to see that I am right on track with a lot of you!
@LeahP and FutureSpice - I am also getting married in Vermont on 9.24.2011! We are planning from DC. Our venue is the Hawk Inn and Mountain Resort in Plymouth VT (not too far from Woodstock). LeahP, I would love to know who you found for your cake and your florist! (Feel free to respond or PM me!
)
@ScarletJwl: Haha! Look at all us VT girls! How exciting! I actually found my cake and florist through our wedding coordinator. For our cake, we went with Irene's Cakes by Design http://irenemaston.com/. When we went to VT in May to check everything out, we had a meeting and a tasting with her. Holy monkey, her cake is GOOD. She came highly recommended by our planner, and if you look at Vermont Vows magazine, her cakes are ALL OVER THE PLACE. She is quite well known in Vermont. And honestly, I was pretty happy with the price. We are doing a 3 tiered cake, and a small "groom's cake," and for both, we are under our budget of $500.
For florist, we went with Vermont Country Flowers, http://vtcountryflowers.com/welcome.html. We met with 2 different florists and really liked Debbie's vibe. She was very nice, warm, and listened really well. And when we got a quote back from her, we were very pleased with the prices.
Congrats on your wedding!
@fieldielover: I love Bar Harbor - what a gorgeous spot for a wedding! I thought about some sort of destination wedding in Maine but ended up deciding to stay in New York. It sounds great though!
@LeahP: That sounds great! We are getting married in Manchester. We're doing the ceremony outdoors on family property, but we're having the reception at the Southern Vermont Arts Center!!
@ScarletJwl: Yay for VT brides!!
To update, now we have officially booked the photographer, and the venue, I have my dress, and we're looking at DJs.
Im also very happy you guys are planning so far in advance too! Sometimes I get comments from vendors with the "Oh you have plenty of time!" And im thinking....have you ever planned a wedding? With a full time job its not that much time!! Also mine is about 6 hours away from where I live, so I try to get as much done when I get into town.
I think I would much rather have everything done ahead of time, less stress and I would imagine less last minute changes.
My prob is that im indecisive!! We have only booked the Venue, but I have investitaged all the other vendors and cannot decide...ever!
One of my delemas is the Photographer. Do I go with pricey (like $4,000) with just amazing angles, jaw dropping color, and interesting photos...or do I go with cheaper (around $2000) traditional, they will come out fine photos....ugh!!!
If you have free time here are the choices:
@LeahP: Thanks! I think they are both on the list that our coordinator sent as well - I will definitely check them out!
@CeeCee: We also had to choose between spending more than we wanted to for something fabulous and staying within our budget for something that is still good, but not jaw-dropping. What really helped me was talking to the photographers. I found a woman I really clicked with who is within our price range and I feel good about my decision. I also know that I have some family members who take fantastic photos, so no matter what I will have beautiful photos from our wedding day. But it really depends on your priorities - is there somewhere else you can cut back in your budget to make room for a more expensive photographer?
No other updates - although I have been wasting a lot of time browsing through Maggie Sottero's website. I have a definite designer crush!
@ScarletJwl:We all do! I love her dresses! I have met with both photographers, and they are both awesome! I think I might go with the cheaper option since I found out some news and I think a cheaper wedding is needed!
I am also September 24, 2011! We are getting married on Cape Cod, MA. So far we have booked our church, venue, photographer, and band. I saw those vendors as the big things to book first with the dress probably coming next (thinking September!?). I am the first of my friends to get engaged so it's nice to see what others are up to who are in the planning process with the same timeline.
Since we are getting married on the Cape we are doing somewhat of a nautical theme. I know the colors are navy/white with light pink accents and we chose our wedding party. I still haven't completely envisioned the look in terms of centerpieces, etc. so I am hoping to get some inspiration through the boards and magazines. Happy planning! Glad we'll be able to help each other out along the way!
Hello Sept'11 brides!!!
Our date is 9.10.11 in Detroit, MI. With my best friend getting married here in a few short weeks, and I being the MOH, the wedding planning is at a halt for now. I feel like I have a few things accomplished, but yet still am getting the comments, "that's it?!". How frustrating
Luckily Future hubby and I have a TON! of networks so these contracts can wait...flowers, invites, cupcakes, dj...whew!
With such a popular date the following contracts had to be signed quickly...
The following have also been decided..well kinda
Bridemaids/Groomsmen -check(He slipped, so most of them know haha)
Color Pallette-1/2 check, thinking black, ivory, deep purple.
Guest list-another 1/2 check, basically narrowed down
WOW! Put down on paper, it looks like we have alot more than I thought. Although this process is alot, I honestly cannot wait to walk down that aisle to that man, and say "I Do!". ahhh, heaven:)
CWs.future.wifey :)
I am a 9-10-11 bride! We are in the San Francisco area.
So far, we have our ceremony/reception venue booked. We have a photographer booked! She is actually a family friend and is doing it for free... She does beautiful pictures!
I go for my first dress shopping appointment the first week of August to a Maggie Sottero trunk show which I am really excited about since she seems to be my favorite designer at the moment.
Hello fellow Sept 11 brides!!! Me and my FI have not started planning yet. I have been browsing around the net checking things out. I am going to try on some gowns this month with my Mom and my Nanna. Other than that most people have tpld us it is too early to start. This is making me a little anxious. My FI doesnt want to book the venue till the spring..... Is this to late because we want to wait till then to really get the plans going. I have not met his parents yet and they are paying for the reception. We will not be meating until the holidays so he doesnt think they will put the money in till then. I cant meet them sooner because I live in Canada my FI in NYC and his parents in Texas. So that has made meeting difficult to say the least. So how late would u wait to book a venue?
We have picked a venue and set a date! The venue will be for both the ceremony and reception. They do a lot so we have food, alcohol, cake, tables/chairs/settings and wedding planner all taken care of. Well, booked anyway. We'll have plenty of time to make the decisions on that. Right now we're deciding on a photographer (so hard!) and looking at bands/DJs.
It's really nice to see so many date twins in this thread! It's all starting to feel so real now.
@ScarletJwl: Yay Maggie Sottero! I got a Maggie dress. It is the "Jessica."
http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=J170
I love it! I'm doing a light gold underlayer and diamond white lace overlay.
OK so now I officially have the DJ too. The next big thing is a caterer.
AHH I feel like such a slacker now!! I am 9/17/11 and have booked the church and have been looking at reception venues in the Hudson Valley (narrowed it down to 2) and will hopefully be booking that within a week or 2... and thats it!!! I have been getting ideas and looking at photographers and florists online but have nothing in the works to book them. I better get a move on!
wow this thread is stressing me out...we are planning on getting married 9/24/11 and have nothing booked yet. we are planning from afar so my parents have checked out some places, and we are going to DC in a few weeks to see the final contenders and hopefully pick/book a venue. i was so into wedding planning before we got engaged, but now that we have to make real decisions, i find myself stalling...
I'm another Sept 17 bride. But I've been engaged since February. I booked my reception venue back in April/May (took a while to get the contract). I recently found a church I can afford. I'm narrowing down the catering. And I think I have a cake, if I can persuade her to book this far in advance (she works out of her home, and she thinks she will have a full time job by then out of the house). I may also have a photographer from Craigslist; that's in the works.
@pb_and_j it is good to start looking now. But don't stress out. There is plenty of time. It's over a year in advance!!!
DC is CRAZY expensive, so that's why I'm glad I started looking when I did. But if that is not an issue, I know you will have a great time finding a gorgeous place. Like, my friends who got married in smaller cities were floored that most of the churches were charging $1100 for the space (then add more for the pastor and the organist) when they only paid like $100.
@reneeglenecho - DC is definitely overpriced, although we started our search in NYC (where FI and i live) so believe it or not, DC prices seem almost cheap comparatively. hotel monaco was high on our list but i think in the end it will be too expensive. might look at their other location in NoVa. glen echo is awesome--which space are you getting married in?
Booked our DJ and limo recently! We now have all the big vendors booked and it's time to focus on getting this bride a dress! :)
Let's see...
Got bridesmaids, a photographer, a DJ, shoes, cake toppers, a few bits of accessory jewelry, lots of ideas, and... uh... yeah.
Exact date and place? Yeah, not so much yet. :\
September 24th bride here...
Looked at options, talked to FI about whose hometown to get married in... nothing set in stone yet.

For all the September 2011 brides..
What have you checked off your wedding list so far? Being so far out, I am nervous to do much. I want to get the big things out of the way, but I am anxious to do more! So far, we have booked the church, reception hall, and photographer. I am hoping to get a DJ soon and start dress shopping within the next few months. I am a planner at heart, so not having much to do when I know such a big event is coming (eventually) is killing me!
Does anyone else hate sitting around not being able to do much planning yet?
