For me it’s dishwasher and laundry detergent. I am in love with the Cascade gel packs for the dishwasher and I can’t use anything but Tide for laundry. I am the ultimate cheapskate when it comes to everything else!
What about you?

@musician32992: Same here re: Tide although I have to use Tide HE as our apartment washers demand HE detergent here.
I also only use DAWN as my dishwashing liquid and get pissy when DH buys anything else (it doesn’t work as well!).

@musician32992: I love the cascade gel paks too. I actually tried a generic and it didn’t work nearly as well, lesson learned. Everything else is pretty much Kirkland brand from Costco.

I’m like you — I don’t buy generic laundry detergent or dishwasher detergent but for the most part, I’m happy to buy store brand for just about everything else!

@musician32992: Agree with both of yours. Also most condiments-I have to have Hellmans mayo, Heinz ketchup, and Guldens mustard. And dawn soap to wash dishes

Probably nothing for me. I don’t necessarily buy generic, I just buy whatever is on sale, so I change brands all the time.

Tide for sure, anything else gives me a rash. Dawn dish soap, but because it donates to wildlifefunds. I have to have Purex toilet paper.

I always purchase Mr. Clean bathroom products. It cuts the cleaning time in half.

@housebee: I tried the regular powdered dishwasher detergent (I think it was also Cascade) that SO bought in bulk probably 5 years ago and it was AWFUL. We had to rewash all of the dishes after taking them out of the dishwasher. I finally caved and bought the gel packs which are pricey but it’s SUCH a difference. The glasses literally sparkle.

@Gemstone: Especially stuff like tomato sauce, pasta, cream cheese… I’m a HUGE Aldi junkie though, I’m about to head there now actually! It’s like a cheapskate’s Mecca.

@musician32992: Ooh good to know. 🙂
We use powdered dish detergent and are happy with it, but again, we weren’t happy with the generic brand of the powdered kind.
And I guess I was thinking more cleaning supplies, not groceries/food when I first answered. But really, we buy a lot of store-brand when it comes to food, too. There are very few things I insist upon being name brand!

I will buy the store/generic brand of most prepackaged, processed food (though I try to keep how much of that we buy to a minimum). Other than that, I’m pretty picky about brands. For household cleaners and products I like 7th Generation, Mrs. Meyers, anything that has mostly natural ingredients, fewer harsh chemicals. Same for products that are going to touch my skin, like lotions, body wash, etc.

Heinz ketchup for sure. Good to know I’m not the only one brand loyal to Heinz.
Real Tobasco sauce, even though we do buy other hot sauces this is the one my husband uses almost daily.
Clorox wipes. We tried the store brand and they just shredded coming out of the container so we figured it’s worth spending the extra 20 cents on the real thing.
Other than that I prefer store brand or whatever is on sale for the cheapest.

Dish soap for sure. What is the point in using 3x the amount and then it still not working as well?
