That is CHEAP. I am getting quote in Portland, Oregon at around $3500-$4,000 for 8 hours. In NYC, it’s at least $4,000 or higher for 8 hours. I haven’t even seen partial days (4 hrs) at $1K in Oregon. I think it’s a scam. Why would he be posting in another city anyway? I bet he just wants your deposit and then won’t show up. AVOID!

I agree, that’s really inexpensive for the area!  Its he aware that you’re in Buffalo?  Maybe he quoted you for a NYC wedding and didn’t add in travel fees.  Its obvious that he’s willing to travel, but he’d probably add some money to the cost depending on the amount of travel.

I’d call and scope him out. See what he says. Ask him where he’s located, etc.

I would say that’s a typical price for the central NY area… since it doesn’t include any albums, prints, etc. For the Buffalo area (I’m in Rochester) that’s seems like a quite possible price! I’m paying $1500 for disc and all rights and unedited (I’m a graphic designer and have design wedding albums in the past).

I’m in NY– anyone who quoted me under 2K, their work was very poor.   If even they weren;r scamming, they pics were cheesy, unfocused, etc.   What is your budget for pictures?

@mudratdetector: We’re going with a family friend who’s been doing weddings in the Rochester area for a number of years. He gives quotes to different people based on their needs! We lucked out because we told him we didn’t want any of the fluffy stuff, and we know how to edit photos. Haha.

I would keep looking in the area! My mom does wedding photography near Syracuse and those are very similar prices to what she offers. There are photographers out there looking to work with brides because of the economy, and because not all brides can spend $3k-$4k on photography. They’re the middle ground.

But like you said, it’s REALLY weird that he says he’s located in NYC on his website, but posting in Buffalo!

@mudratdetector: Here’s a Syracuse photographer who we almost went with. She lets you build your day pretty much! Her photos are great, and I’m sure she’d work with you on mileage: http://www.mabyn.com/. I’ve known her for years!

I agree with everyone else, for NYC $1000 is cheap. But like I said, it’s not uncommon for the Buff/Roc/Syr area!

I don’t live in NYC, but just looking at his website, his pics are mediocre. You have to decide how important photography is to you. If it’s not that important and you can’t find anyone else, I would consider him.
