You could possibly do program fans. That way they at least have something to fan themselves in the heat.
The good news is, the ceremony doesn't last too too long. So I"m sure they'll be ok for 20 or 30 minutes.
I totally get what you're saying. I live in Raleigh, and it's crazy hot lately!
Oh man, that might be a hot ceramony. Does your ceramony site have any shady trees? That would help somewhat. You could also put paper fans on the seats for people to use. How long is your ceramony?
I think that everyone will be prepared for the heat and dress appropriately, which will help. Maybe you could possibly have some time of canopy set up or something similar to shade your guests and weddign party from the grueling sun.
You could also supply guests with buri fans, I bought these for my wedding, and ended up totally forgetting about them- I am selling them if you are interested in the idea of fans for guests to cool themselves- wish i would've gotten to have them used, they very chic and fun to attach programs to also-

thanks ladies. I agree fans probably will need to be another must to do list.
There aren't too many trees on the west side unfortunately. Is it too tacky to offer cold bottles of water during the ceremony? Our cocktail hr & reception are DIRECTLy following, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
I have a feeling I'll just be over stressing the weeks before wondering it it'll be 70 or 105 degrees!
My wedding day was incredibly hot! (and humid. that's the caribbean weather!)
I.did.not.feel.a.thing.
I was so excited and happy, the heat was not a problem. We were under a gazebo, lots of light came in, but there was also shade, so people were comfortable.
At what time is your wedding? We had it at 4:00, the temperature starts to slowly decrease from that time...
also my FI is wondering if his wool 3 piece suit was the wrong choice... guess its too late for that! :)
I'm considering having a couple beverage tubs full of ice and bottled water set out for our guests during the ceremony if it's going to be hot. Our ceremony is on a covered deck which has ceiling fans, but since it got warm so early this year, I'm worried that it's going to be hotter than expected!
Sometimes I think I'm trying to be too accomodating. My ideas: parasols, fans, water, sun screen. I've got to remember, I'm not their mother! This is my day.
At my cousin's summer wedding in Virginia, it was 95 degrees and humid. The ceremony was delayed (started about 30 minutes late), there was no bottled water, no shade, no fans, and it was pretty long . Guests were miserable -- drenched in sweat, weak and dizzy. Especially the older people didn't do well. Ugh!
I'd say if you have a short ceremony, keep it on time, and provide at least fans and bottled water (and maybe some sun hats or parasols for elderly guests), you should be able to pull it off. A covered deck with ceiling fans should be fine, with a little extra attention to making guests comfortable.
Good luck!
I also live in the Triangle area... a few years ago I went to an outdoor wedding in early August in Greensboro... it was incredibly hot but the couple provided really cute little wooden fans on every seat. I think they saved us guests from heatstroke!
I don't have a picture of the fans but I'm sure they could be ordered cheaply in bulk.
thanks! Maybe some of the ladies will wear those beautiful hats! I'll tell my grandma, she'll love it.
Now... where to find cute, cheap fans, (pref. not diy or program fans)... hmm.
these are way cute, and personalized, and can be a "favor":
I love the use of parasols in this outdoor wedding from Style Me Pretty:

Wonder where they got them (and how high was their budget)?!?!
Im getting worried too, my wedding is outoors in july. I bought fans, and the ceremony should only be about 20 mins so hopefully it will be ok.
My mom's family is from the south so I understand how hard the humidity can be. In CA where it can be very hot, people have provided little parasol's for guests while they are sitting. They have saved my butt and skin from being completely fried!
well - we will be on a "garden deck" of the building where our reception is for our ceremony. I have already created all of our "program fans" for this very reason! June 26th in Indianapolis can get pretty hot! course I'LL be the one in a dress that weighs 20 pounds! :p
Rgeddy - I tried to post a link to some cute, personalized fans for weddings, but it's not showing up. Let me know if you're interested and I'll try to dig it up for you!
I definitely don't think that the watter bottles are tacky. i would appreciate that at a wedding. i get hot really easily and i absolutley hate sweating (usually its just my head that sweats and then my makeup and hair are ruined) and would love water and a fan. my only worry with the parasols would that it would get in the way of the guests view.
oooh i LOVE the idea of the bottled water! not to thread-jack but thanks for that idea! :D

We're planning our garden ceremony outdoors. I visited the site this weekend and was overwhelmed by the heat! Our ceremony is at 4pm in June in North Carolina. I'm preparing for 95 degrees + 1000% humidity!
What are ideas to help relieve the heat?
Would anyone consider have a "rainy day" plan just for heat?
