I’m packing for a friend’s out-of-town wedding this weekend, and I’m invited to the rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal dinner invite says “casual” dress and it’s at a mexican restaurant. I checked with the bride to double check on the dress code, and she said her family will be wearing nicer than casual dress, but the groom’s side will probaby be wearing jeans, and she’ll be wearing a cocktail dress. What should I wear??? What would you wear?

@gromble: I would wear black or dark jeans with nice pumps or boots with a pretty top and good accessories

Personally, I’d go for dark jeans, good heels, and a nice top with jewellery. That’s solidly in smart casual, and you won’t be over-dressed. Do something with your hair, and you should be set. It’s in the middle between “just jeans” and “nicer than casual” so you’re not out-dressing anyone and you’re not too casual. A dress and tights and boots would also work. Whatever you feel comfortable in. I think you can’t miss with being smart but laid back.

I’d probably wear a semi casual dress, tights, and flat boots.

Etiquette Snob here… lol
By definition… “Casual Wear” for a Dress Code would emplify the standard of Jeans or Slacks with a top / sweater.
Personally, as it is a Wedding Event, I’d probably step it up a notch and go “Smart Casual” and go a tad dressier… Black Jeans or Dress Pants, or even a nice skirt and top.
The key to Casual is always found in COMFORT.
So go with something that makes you feel comfy.
Hope this helps,
PS… When it comes to attire for Women & Wedding Events here is a page I like it defines different Dress Codes (Smart Casual is at the bottom of the page) = http://www.stylehunter.com.au/what-to-wear/what-to-wear-to-a-wedding

@gromble: I’d lean more toward what your friend’s side would be wearing. You can’t really go wrong with a cute little dress, cardigan, and tights in the winter. What’s the weather like where you’re going?

@MrsLongcoatPeacoat: High in the mid 60s and clear, lows in the 40s.

@gromble: yeah, that’s a bit chilly. I’d definitely go for a dress, cardigan and tights.
