So I’ve spoken to a travel agent, but I’m getting worried that the prices she gave me are too much for Mexico.
I’ve heard of other people spending less and going to places like Europe or Spain. But I also don’t know what kind of hotel they stayed at or for how long…
She gave us quotes for 5 and 4.5 star, all inclusive, adult only resorts for 7 days in the Rivera Maya and a round trip flight for one at $150.
The most expensive resort (Iberostar Grand Hotel) and flight for two comes to about $5,000..is this reasonable for everything I’m getting?
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?? I’m not that experienced with traveling but when I have travled I didn’t stay at a 4.5 or 5 star resort..don’t get my wrong I like the idea especially because it will be for our honeymoon, I just want to be sure I’m not getting ripped off I guess..
P.S. Is this a good place to go to in Mexico to relax but still sight see? Or are there other places? What do you think?

@alg0188: it is a good place to see stuff – chichen itza day trip, tulum day trip, xcaret or cenotes, snorkelling etc

seems high to me for 7 days

i honestly think you can get a decent deal on expedia – i checked flight and hotel packages in july from dallas and houston (because frankly i have no idea what other cities exist in texas – im english) and there are deals for about 3200 -3500 – including the excellence hotel and secrets hotels which i heard are pretty good
often if you contact hotels in advance and take marriage certificate theyll decorate the bedroom and give a bottle of wine etc for free
then – you can easily hire a limo or nice transfer from airport.

This is a rounded estimate..but maybe it’s high because I picked one of the more expensive rooms??? no??..lol.

we’re going there the week before you! i just sent you a PM 🙂

its true ocean view rooms are more expensive generally but still
there are options like apple vacations as well, if you dont mind the tedious bus transfer that stops off at every hotel on the way.they have adults only options for around 3k and things like ocean view rooms are a slight increase on the price (as in a few hundred dollars)
i think you can find a better deal honesly

We are going to Riviera Maya as well for our honeymoon in early May. We have booked 6 nights at an all inclusive in Playa del Carmen for $2300 which includes airfare for both of us from Indianapolis. We are staying at the Grand Sunset Princess. I really liked this one because it has the rooms that have steps leading directly down into the pool right from your patio which is something I’ve always wanted for some reason, haha.
Good luck, I know its stressful trying to find the best deals! If you’re interested, we used http://www.bookit.com and they seemed to have really decent pricing.

I stayed at an Iberostar Grand in Jamaica and we payed about $4k for a week (booked a standard room and they upgraded us to oceanfront), so that sounds about right. You could try calling the resort to see if they will give you a room upgrade since its your honeymoon- at least that way you can save a little by booking a standard room
The Grands are high end and worth the cost IMO, but if you don’t want to spend that much, look for cheaper hotels. Not sure of the cost, but I’ve heard nothing but great things about The Royal Playa del Carmen.

I’m not sure if this makes a difference but taxes, fees, transportations to and from the hotel is also included in this price..not sure if maybe that is why it seems high, or if I really am just getting a bad deal.

$5000 is too high but Iberostar Grand Hotel is one of the best resorts in the Riviera Maya. Go to cheapcaribbean.com, funjet.com, & expedia.com. You might get a better deal.

i think it’s a bit high for only 7 days. i’ve paid less than that for 2 weeks.
