The photo I am mimicing for centerpieces uses ranunculus and roses.  However, ranunculus is out of season in August.  What is a good alternative that I can use to replace the ranunculus?

maybe some type of spray garden rose? they both have cabbage-y heads and the spray roses (like kabuki) would be smaller and closer to the size of a ranuculus

I agree with a garden rose, or you might find dahlia that works depending on the color you are looking for

    Big spray roses, peonies.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm going with garden roses and spray roses, since I learns peonies are expensive in August.  I like the idea of using some dahlia too... as long as they hold up in the heat.

I wanted ranunculus for my flowers too! But again they are out of season in October. The florist told me that open roses will look close, they just set them out a little before and let them open up.
