Errr... I've never heard of "buck" in relation to shoes, but I've heard of "nubuck" leather. It's sort of half-way between leather and suede. Close to leather, but it's soft, like the skin of a peach, and it's not shiny. A lot of hiking shoes are made out of nubuck, and it's more durable than suede.
I found this explanation of the difference between nubuck and suede: "nubuck is sanded on the outer surface of the leather, essentially the part that would have been the exterior skin of the animal, while suede is sanded on the inner layer of the skin"
"Bucks" are white or tan mens/boys shoes made from buckskin. Which is to say, it's, like a finer suede -- not really suede-y, not very textured .... but slightly more textured than normal smooth leather. "white bucks" are a classic, classic American menswear look. Very preppie, really. in the 1950s, someone who wore white bucks was considered square or straightlaced... today i think they look AWESOME. my fiance is wearing tan bucks for our island wedding. see photo.
Guys shoes have such boring names..."buck", "loafers," etc. Women's shoe names are way more fun...stiltto, d'orsay, peep toe...sorry, just rambling!

I guess the shoe that will go best with my ring boys outfit is a buck ... what is buck?
Is it suede? I need them in white. So confused!
Thank you.
