@bluefrog33:  I always live near a public library so I try to attend free programs there or pick a subject I want to learn more about and check out a bunch of books on the subject so I can become a mini-expert on it.  Ummm…other than that put together a schedule of things to do each day including exercise.  Exercise is a great way to waste an hour or two of your day.

I’m not on furlough, but FI is. The house is spotless. The dogs have gone on two runs a day since the beginning of the week. All the laundry is done. Meals are cooked for the rest of the week. But we’re in the same boat: we were going to put down deposits next week, and now I feel like we may have to dig into savings just to make rent next month. Ugh.

I’m not on furlough but this is affecting my job because part of it deals with government departments that are currently closed. So I’m at work, on WB because I have nothing else to do. I’m also on Pinterest looking at dinner recipies. BORING.

Cook foods for the freezer to be eaten over the next couple of months? Freeze dessert for Thanksgiving?

What hobbies do you have? Repaint/finish a piece of furniture? Scrapbook?

Research car insurance rates/cable rates etc to see if you can reduce your monthly expenses?

    Wash and vacume your car?

Take a class at home depot (most are free) or other local home improvement or craft store.

My new husband is the one laid off, although it might only be partially related to the actual federal shut down. Ugh. He is working on projects for the house we just bought in July though! Installing a “countertop”, carpeting the bedroom, etc. Since he’s been off work since Tuesday (and there is very little to NO chance of him getting any back pay) we are carefully using the wedding gift money for these projects… we got a nice gift card to home depot and some for Lowe’s as part of the wedding so he’s doing that. Are there any home projects you could do? Like not just cleaning, but actual changes/updates? Of course, they would have to not cost much money…

It’s good in a way because these things needed done. We bought a triplex and currently I live in one of the apartments within it, and if we move in a month (entirely possible) these things need done for the new tenants we would hope to move in there in our place!

But what worries me is we are JUST starting out.. we haven’t even had a CHANCE to do the whole “save 6 months”… we are lucky to be able to cover him for up to three to four weeks, but after that…… things could fall apart VERY quickly 🙁

@bluefrog33:  ugh exactly! It takes so long to build them up and then its a harsh reminder of how quickly they can disappear. I mean, that’s why we have them, but still!

@bluefrog33:  Also I really really hope you get your back pay!!! Husband probably won’t because his furlough is actually more to do between the state and the university that holds his contract, and they *might* be now waiting to see what happens federally since they couldn’t come to their own agreement either. No chance of backpay for him. Maybe unemployment, but not sure….

I’m not gonna lie – I am so lazy that if I was furloughed I know good and well I’d watch endless hours of Netflix, not make sure my house was spotless LOL.

@bluefrog33:  I love Scandal!!!  The first season is on Netflix and the second season is on Hulu+ if that helps!
