You can create the design yourself or you can use standard clipart images. The thing with creating a gocco screen for printing is that your design must be a black and white design (as little grayscale as possible) and the design must be printed with carbon ink in order for the design to burn onto the screen properly. You can either buy carbon ink pens and draw the design yourself onto paper and then burn it onto a screen, or you can print out your design from your computer using a laser printer (if you have an inkjet printer, you’ll have to use a laser copier and make a copy of your design in order to have a carbon-ink copy) and use that to burn your design. It sounds complicated but it’s really not as hard as it seems. I was super confused at first but I found some great tutorials on Flickr (so there were pictures to follow!) and that helped me understand the process better! The great thing with Gocco’s is that you get to create the screens yourself so you can design anything and use your gocco to print it!
