on on my honeymoon in NYC at the moment. the change in food habits etc has flared my IBS up and after ruining 2 meals and almost the visit to the statue of liberty i need help!in the uk after seeing specialists I’m finally managed on lifestyle changes and peppermint oil capsules (mintec or colpermin in uk) and occasional buscopan use. I’ve been so well I only bought one packet of mintec with me, have now run out and need more. In England I can buy it over the counter or by prescription, but I just visited CVS pharmacy and couldn’t find anything like it and the pharmacy lady had no idea what I was talking about.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I NEED TO Ask FOR? I have travel insurance so can see a dr if needed but don’t wanna pay the £200 excess for a medicine that I can buy for £5 back home.
Please help me!!!

I would check out a vitamin store or a specialty grocery for the peppermint oil capsules!

It looks like they are mostly just peppermint oil. Can you take a few does of that for the time being?

@Rachael1287: you should be able to find these at a Walgreens or CVS: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/nature's-way-pepogest-peppermint-oil-dietary-supplement-softgels/ID=prod6037548-product
I don’t think you’ll be able to get anything like the buscopan without seeing a doctor and getting a prescription.

@CountryRose: peppermint oil needs to be in a capsule otherwise it gives really bad heartburn 🙁

@Rachael1287: try a health food store for the capsules! good luck!

@Rachael1287: Did you ask the pharmacist to suggest something? Surely they have some kind of over the counter IBS medication?
This is from the CVS website

Try going to a pharmacy and asking for enteric coated peppermint oil capsules.
The only thing OTC would be Loperamide (Immodium) for diarrhea symptoms and regular NSAIDs or Tylenol for pain.

@Rachael1287: Here you go. On the CVS website. Maybe go in and ask for them by name. You might need to try more than one branch.

do you mean enteric coated peppermint oil? Any neutraceutical store should have them.

I would try going to a GNC! They are all over the place here in NYC!
