I’m from the UK and got married in the USA 2weeks ago, I was told if i want my husbands surname i have to change it myself is this right? I don’t know what my surname is legally.
For British brides who were married in the USA
How did you do it?
I can’t find any info, only that in the UK the name would change when you sign the register but since we didn’t do that do i need to change it with a deed poll? Also, was your American Marriage Cert accepted by the passport office for the name change?

Are you staying in the US or going back to the UK?

How to British brides change their name in the UK?
I was married in Canada, but we’re from the US. I am going to change my name according to the US name change rules/laws. I guess I would assume you change it in the UK, like other UK brides do?
“I was told if i want my husbands surname i have to change it myself is this right”
This make it sound like it’s done for you automatically in the UK?
Right now, your surname is still the last name you were born with, aka maiden name.
Your US marriage license should have been filled out using your birth/maiden last name, not what you want it to be (husband’s surname). Is what you mean by “did the UK accept the name change?”
