My SO and I have been living in our new home for about 3 months now and are still trying to find out decorating style, we currently have a lovely dark wood dining table with absolutley nothing on it.. I want to put something in the middle of the table to jazz it up a little so please feel free to post some picture of your tables and inspire me! I’ve tried looking on Google but it only shows over the top christmas/thanksgiving/halloween/wedding stuff – I want something for everyday!

Most days, nothing! Sometimes I’ll put out a simple vase of flowers and a table runner, but that’s about it. My decor is primarily on my walls. The table is for eating!

- Wedding: April 2013 - A court...
I have a tall vase with fake flowers from pier 1 most of the time though I alternate with real flowers whenever i get any. I also leave placemats out so it doesn’t get too boring since I don’t have a tablecloth yet.

I hate our table but its not our top priority on items to replace. Placemat in center, I usually have all of them out since our table is so plain. Also our “vodka” vase haha & some fresh flowers!

Right now we have a bunch of wrapping paper/supplies and some big vases (from the wedding! Awesome!) filled with ornaments, but usually we just have a napkin holder, maybe salt and pepper, and if I’ve thought to pick some up, some fresh flowers in a vase. I like to keep it pretty simple because our table is pretty already. We thought about getting some placemats or something, but I’m not ready to cover it up!

@Brickette: ours is always decorated for the season– but this was it at Thanksgiving/Fall themed, I had on it a lantern filled with candles, pumpkins and leaves, fall colored plates and redish orange napkins.
Now it has candles, ornaments and my Christmas plates out on it!

I love these simple, clutter free tables:
(and Slow Your Home is an excellent blog for inspiration on decluttering and living more simply!)

When it’s not seasonal, we have a blue placemat, a large rustic-ish porcelain bowl, and two clear glass candlesticks with blue candles.

This vase, with fake flowers. Usually we have white and green hydrangeas. Its on a dark ivory lace doiley. We have a very formal dining room (because my parents gave us their very formal dining room table when they divorced) but we like formal things.

@Brickette: Bahahahahha……I read the title of your post and laughed. I am sitting at the corner of my dining room table that seats6……and I have Christmas gufts, ribbon, tape wet wipes, my sons prescription, 2 large pinecones, a flashlight, a water glass. my husband’s phone, a pair of (new) socks and some pictures. Also some mail. And a HUGE cookie jar fill of wrapping supplies.
Now, if my dining room table was clean- and it needs to be by tomorrow because we are having guests…..it would currently have 3 laser-cut pine trees and 1 laser cut reindeer made of wood. And 2 large pine cones.
I will try and take a picture later tonight or tomorrow- I love my simple trees!!
If it wasn’t Christmas, I’d have 3 cool tea light holders. I tend to keep it simple. I used to have a decorative plate with candles and junk….but we have a five year old. So there’s homework (yes homework in kindergarten), and projects and all that jazz- we are a family who lives in our home…..so we keep it classy but simple!

Sometimes flowers, if we get them for a holiday or fancy dinner. Otherwise, maybe a runner. I tend to leave my Shabbat candlesticks out because they’re really pretty, and they’re in a long, shallow basket. They look like this:
Otherwise, not much. The dining room table tends to accumulate clutter, and I can’t seem to stem the tide lately.

I usually have some kind of candle and little place mat (that matches the season) on our table. It’s actually kind of annoying having this stuff on the table because we have to move it so often for the various things we do at the table.

Right now? Left over Christmas cards, my laptop, bags of Christmas decorations we haven’t put up yet, wrapping paper, tape, probably some mugs……
Usually… a set of round lidded baskets from Ikea and nothing else. The baskets have (smallest to largest): quarters for laundry, extra cables for our phones/laptops, and candy. i like hiding things in plain sight. 😛 I keep meaning to make a table runner but have’t gotten around to it.

Ours has a leather accent built into the table, so all we have is a candle in the middle.
