It’s kind of all over the place! I see a lot of older women with smaller (.10-.30) solitaires. But some older women have bigger carats around 2-3 carats, but they are in the minority. Younger couples usually have from what I’ve seen in my group of friends, ect. halos with a smaller center stone, buts lots of bling and sparkle, or a princess cut solitaire with pave band, usually 1/2 carat. Some have larger carats (2-3 carats nothing bigger) but again, they are in the minority.

I don’t think it’s my area exactly- I think it depends more on the people I’m surrounded by lol because my man has a nice job and at his posh company holiday dinner I could see all the women (including secretaries) were frontin’ 2+carats… I like to keep it real and shop at Walmart tho 🙂 so between that and my ghetto-poor friends, the average is more like 0.5-1carat.

    I voted .25-.50 for what it’s worth.

@BlondeeBee:  I guess I would have to say that the average carat size in my area would be around .50-.75. But then again, I am young and that is only the sizes that I have seen with my friends in my age group that are engaged. I would assume though that in Woodbury, MN (where I live) it’s around 1 ct-1.5 ct in more established relationships. (I hope that makes sense)

Here is my lovely! It’s a .71 radiant cut diamond 🙂

I live in the SF Bay Area.  So I assume that the average carat size is above 1.5.  But I have a 0.76 carat princess cut:

    I think it’s a good size for me. 🙂

Most people I know have a ring that is between .5-1 carat, which I think is pretty typical in most places. My ring is a bit non traditional- .88 sapphire with a diamond halo and band. Here’s my full set:

@BlondeeBee:  where I live no one has engagement rings. there isn’t really the tradition of the man proposing and giving a ring.

Some guys will give their girlfriends an eternity band or a small 3 stone ring (like .25 tcw) or a small solitaire (again the biggest I’ve ever seen was .30 and everyone was commenting on how big it was) to signify that you are in a commited relationship, but it doesn’t mean you are getting married.

In the UK, where I grew up I’d say on average rings are about .50 or .75 either soliatires or three stones.

My ring is about 2 carats total, the centre is just below a carat and it’s a three stone halo with loads of detail and filigree so it’s quite showy. I usually receive a lot of compliments on it 🙂

From what I’ve observed, the average in Auckland seems to be between 0.5-1 ct. The average in other cities in New Zealand would probably be smaller though

I live in Portland OR. Women I work with are anywhere from .25-1. Sometimes you’ll see something larger but they tend to be on the smaller side.

But I used to live in Long Beach CA/orange county & San Diego. It was a different ball game in southern California. Minimum was 1 carat but usually larger. Anywhere from 1-4 carats. Orange County is nuts when it comes to diamond size!!!

NYC. My friends have from 1.2 carats to 2.5 carats and all of them are diamonds except for one friend who has a gorgeous ruby. I have a 1.5 carat diamond.
