My FI and his best man went to the men’s wearhouse yesterday to check out tuxedos for the wedding party. They said it will be a little over two hundred a man to rent a tux and he will get a discount and it will cost around four hundred to buy his. Is this normal?? I always thought tux rentals were around one hundred maybe. I mean my bridesmaid’s dresses are under two hundred to own not rent. What is everyone else paying? Is this normal?

We got a few quotes and they were all around $200.

Yeah, that’s pretty normal. I’m assuming you went with one of the Vera Wang tuxes? I looked at those and said nope to the price. We ended up going through my bridal shop for several reasons: larger selection, better prices, better discount. I believe to rent the entire tux we chose was $150, but we chose to just rent the flat front pants (extra $5), matching vest, and dress shirt for $90. Still steep, but better than $200.
I suggest seeing if you’ve got a Jim’s retailer near you.

@BriansBride: We originally went to MW, but after researching and shopping around, we found they were cheaper to rent at Jos A Bank. (For the record, we considered buying, but one of our GM is almost 7 feet tall and it was nearly impossible to accommodate him). Ours are between $150-$200 and my FI’s is free.

The Vera tuxes are $200 in our area. The ones we chose were $89 after taxes and what not.

@BriansBride: The Canadian version of Men’s Wearhouse (Moores) rents the Black by Vera Wang for $189 and the regualr tux for $149. You also get a free rental or a $500 voucher with 5 paid orders.
I’m surprised that they’re more expensive South of the border, that’s not usually the case.

@BriansBride: My FI and his GM all got their tux’s for $165

That sounds pretty much right to me! We went through Men’s Wearhouse and the guys were able to get their tuxes for a bit less, but of course, it depends which line you go with!

Ours are about $190. We had a $30 or $40 off each rental code for MW.

@BriansBride: We got an estimated price of $190ish to rent a pretty standard tux from Jos A Bank (including flat front pants). We then went to a privately owned tux shop and got a quote for a Ralph Lauren rentail of $185, including flat front pants, the microfiber (non pleated) shirts, shoes, button studs, cufflinks, suspenders, and a tailored fit (read: non baggy!) jacket. MUCH nicer tux than what was available at Jos. A Bank at a similar price point. This also included the damage waiver and tax. They gave us a discount based on the number of rentals AND the location of the wedding (because they do a lot of business with that company) It may be worthwhile to ask your venue who they recommend, because you may get additional incentives from the shop.
