I would suggest an empire waist, something kind of flowy. Maybe a grecian style gown?

Good luck, and post pics when you try stuff on! ๐Ÿ™‚

Try on the style you love and just see how it looks before ruling anything out totally. I am 5’5″ and weigh 170 now. I have 9 months to lose weight and I am doing Weight Watchers. Even if it wasn’t for my wedding, I would be trying to lose weight because after we get married we are going to try for kids pretty soon and I want to be healthy.

Please don’t rule anything out yet before you’ve tried them on.  my size, weight and shape are similar to you and I am so happy I tried on all different styles and shapes cause i have a dress I love but would have ruled out based on my initial thoughts of what would look good.

Trying on loads of dresses is half the fun and you’ll be suprised about how fabulous you could look.  you have lovely legs and a definite waist so go for it – flaunt what you have!

Let us know how you get on. x

I think you’re really going to have to just try a variety of styles on. You may be very surprised so don’t pigeonhole yourself.

I’m sorry I didn’t save all of these and post them as pictures…I’m on my work computer so I try not to do that : /….but I avoided any gowns that were strapless and these are what I picked out for you. I put your picture up beside them so I could visualize it haha. I hope you like my picks! If you don’t, I’m not offended ๐Ÿ™‚

These were all at David’s Bridal. Also, I’d like to note, I work with a woman who has your frame and she wore a dress by Alfred Angelo in his Dream in Color collection. She wore a strapless and looked beautiful in it.

If you’re really worried about being too topheavy for a strapless gown but fall in love with one, you can always try wearing a bolero or something to cover yourself up a bit more.

Maybe try something ballgown style, or with an empire waist? Something like this might be pretty on:

Try on anything you think is pretty and see what works for you – you’d be surprised.  Now, I do have a big ass and hips to go with my broad shoulders and big boobies, and I looked great in a fit and flare.  My dress was fitted to almost the widest part of my hips.

Be carefull with ballgowns – especially the big poofy ones – you get lost in there and they make you look even bigger.  I think you’ll be amazed at how good you can look in something that shows off your waist.

If you’re concerned – call ahead and find places that carry samples closer to your size.  I cannot see what a dress in an 18 is going to look like by holding up a size 8 sample.
