Besides marrying the love of your life, and having your friends and family with you, what is the coolest or most unique thing/detail about your wedding? What are you most excited about?

Me -- Our videographer is doing a same-day edit and I am super excited about that.

    What about YOU?!

Fun question!  I think the most unique part of our wedding will be that we are getting married in a flower shop.  Not only should it be beautiful, but I suspect that we will be brought back to our wedding day everytime we walk into a flower shop and smell all the flowers!

The coolest thing about my wedding is that it is being held here:

Another something cool will be our feast... My SIL is the manager of the most popular restaurant in the area, and although we weren't able to have our reception there (having it at a beach house up the road), the head chef is catering our dinner at cost. The food he makes is amazing -- all fresh seafood done in the most delectable manner. We are getting food that will knock the socks off our guests at a rock bottom price!

I can't pick one, but here's my 3 coolest things:

    1. My relative who made it to "top 4" on Idol will be playing at the wedding. We both thinks our friends and family will enjoy dancing to him :)

    2. We're super excited that the wedding takes place just after Christmas and many of our friends who live away will be home and in great spirits.

    3. We are asking guests to donate money to charity instead of recieving traditional gifts and we're going to distribute the money to local charities.

We're getting married in the little town where my fiance was born in India.  It's remote and completely beautiful, up in the Himalayan Darjeeling Tea District.  Our venue is on the site of the first Catholic seminary east of the Suez Canal.  You can read all about our planning adventure on my blog.

I'm leaving for India a month from yesterday to start getting everything in order for the wedding!  I can't believe it!

MsB....who is your friend from the top 4.  Um...because I LOVE that show!  haha!

It is so hard to choose just ONE favorite thing about our wedding...other than the fact that we are just trying to incorporate all of our favorite things..whether it be traditional or not.

We are the FIRST to get married in the building that we are using.  It is used often for wedding receptions, but not weddings. :)

We are not using traditional music for the ceremony... :)  No Canon in D, or the Bridal March tone...

Lots of Black, and lots of fun!!!

My fiance is playing all the ceremony music (he's a pianist).  He is going to record it all ahead of time from our 'studio' at home & have it playing during the ceremony.

We're also folding 1500 origami roses for all of our flowers.  They look soo unbelievably real.

    Top 3:

We are having our friends who are in an Irish trio band play our ceremony music.  We're having a photobooth at the reception with a basket of silly props from the Dollar Store.  And our cake toppers are going to be sculptures of us modeled after our Miis on Nintendo Wii, complete with representations of my actual dress and fiance's tux.

The coolest thing about our wedding was eloping on top of the mountain during a ski trip. Low stress, little planning, great photographer.

The coolest thing about our reception (in Sept) will be that 60% of the guests will be hard core swing dancers and so we get to celebrate our wedding doing the thing we love the most, surrounded by other people who love it too.

    2) The officiant - one of our really great friends who is a DA and thus amazing at public speaking

    3) The food and drinks - best caterer in our town - I am drooling already

KateMW - I LOVE Seaside!! We were seriously considering getting married there.  I'm jealous!! Seaside and Polebridge(where miss cherry pie is getting married) are two of my favorite places on the planet.

Cool things about our wedding - a four course tasting menu with local, organic and seasonal foods,  the bluegrass band has a washboard player,  we're having PBR on tap, we're not registering and encouraging friends to give to heifer international instead.

I am really excited about our planned entrance for our reception. We are distracting our guests with a personal "movie trailer", while we sneak in through the back door and onto the dance floor.  When the trailer ends, our guests will be prompted to turn to the dance floor, where we will have our first dance.

our buffet menu was personally designed by my hubby (he's one of the chefs in the kitchen at the country club we were at), including lobster tails, mac and cheese, prime rib, and a sushi bar! to top it all off, we had a surprise dessert room with cheesecakes, chocolate fountain, gelato bar, and candy buffet in the corners and a humongous eiffel tower ice sculpture in the middle to commemorate our engagement in paris :)

Livvie~ Isn't it just the best place ever? It even smells better than other beaches to me. :) It was the first trip we took as a couple, where we spent our first anniversary, first place we took our daughter. We hope to buy a house there soon.

Since my FI is part Cuban and I am Peruvian, we are having Cuban mojitos and Peruvian Pisco Sours as the signature cocktails during the cocktail hour. We are also having a book themed wedding, so instead of escort cards, guests will look up their names in a book's "table of contents."

Besides all that though, to me the coolest thing about our wedding is that we've done a pretty good job of keeping it small and intimate, so I'm really hoping people will have a great time as a result!

I'm awed by all the coolness in this thread!

We're not quite sure how we're going to do this yet, but we're thinking of doing dance lessons. Our reception is during the daytime and we're trying for a charming, intimate vibe and want to teach our guests fun old dances...a DJ with top 40 pop songs would just be too out of place for the atmosphere! We hope people will participate!!

I am surprised but delighted at how many people are doing unique and personal musical elements for their weddings--we are too!  In our case, our ceremony will feature an early music chamber choir that I have sung with for several years, performing nearly a mini-concert  of medieval music during the ceremony, some of it with new lyrics written by a friend especially for our wedding.  That should add a bit of spice to an otherwise traditional catholic ceremony!  Classical, but sooo not traditional. :)

I think our invitations will also be pretty cool--my fiance BUILT me a letterpress which we are using to print everything!

I love the origami roses and dance lessons ideas!

I'm really looking forward to the plants and flowers we will have at the reception.  My mom is really into gardening so we will be brining in a ton of potted plants to make our indoor reception venue look like a luscious indoor garden.  Plus, we are making a ton of DIY peony arrangments and having live peonies everywhere.  I'm obesessed with peonies!

I love that you asked the question! And I love everyone's responses so far!

I'm having a tough time picking the ONE coolest thing about our wedding, but here's my favourites....

    1. The guests. I have a number of relatives who live overseas who I never thought would make it to our wedding because of the expense of flying in. Surprise! They've been saving up for this day since we got engaged, and wouldn't miss our special day for anything. I get choked up thinking about having them there. It'll be amazing.

    2. The jewelry for the bridal party - I'm working with someone who will custom design and hand-craft not only my jewelry for the special day, but also all the jewelry for my bridesmaids and our moms. She is a friend of our family and she is so unbelieveably talented at what she does. She designs each person's jewelry to match their outfit and personality, and then she writes a personalized letter to each person to tell them about how their piece was made. She did my cousin's wedding in April, and everyone raved about her work.

First, I have to agree that this is the BEST thread! I am getting even more ideas looking at it! Please keep adding!

    My favorite things (thus far):

    1. Luau rehersal dinner including a pig roast and karaoke

    2. Our centerpieces will include pictures of us and the guests sitting at that table (which are named after our favorite restaurants)... we have about 10 months to make sure we have pictures with everyone!

    3. We are getting married on an island with no cars... just golf cars which we will be decorating!

    This is a great thread!

It's hard to choose, but I'll have to say its a tie between scoring a free wedding photography package from an international-award winning photographer and and the generosity of many other vendors who are helping us get past our broke-ness and have the wedding of our dreams!

Keep the good things coming - I love to read about everyone else's excitement!

After the frustration of trying to arrange a traditional catholic ceremony in Orange County, CA we did a complete 180 and have decided to have a destination wedding at Negril, Jamaica with a sunset ceremony!!!!!  I'm getting more excited about it!  I think my parents are still struggling with the thought.... :P

Our wedding was held at Fort Adams, a Civil War fort on the edge of the water in Newport, RI.  So we had Revolutionary War Reenactors (they have prettier uniforms) and a cannon went off as we were announced as husband and wife....because seriously, when ELSE can you have a cannon?!

We chose to perform a butterfly release in memory of our loved ones not at the wedding, particularily my father in law and our daughter.

The most memorable event of the wedding occurred as the butterflies were starting to fly, my husband and I both put our fingers out and each had a butterfly land on our fingers.  The butterflies stayed for a good 30 seconds and not a dry eye in the room.  Our photographer snapped a picture of my husband with the most comforted and peaceful look.

We're having two kegs of Leinenkugel's beer at our reception. It's brewed in my FI's hometown and we're having it shipped all the way to FL.

Instead of a traditional cake topper, we're using a Lenox tree decorated with rose-colored garland. The cake will be covered in cherry blossom vines.

I'm wearing a Seattle Seahawks garter which will thrill my FI to no end.

Our favors are marzipan leaves imported from the UK.

We're doing a wish tree instead of a guest book.

Anyone pick up on the tree theme? :)

Love this thread! We're getting married in a natural history museum, complete with dinosaur skeletons and huge stuffed polar bears. We're having a prosecco bar, where people can choose their own mix-ins (like Coldstone, but with alcohol!). We're also having a popcorn cart (a surprise for my FI) late in the night, since it's his favorite drunk food. And we learned how to polka, since it's my FI's parents thing to do at every wedding/big event (it's a surprise for them!).

Our first dance is to an inappropriate hip hop song! I had typed the song and artist but my FI is sitting here telling me not to tell. lol. Its our favorite song and we always dance around our apt. to it when cleaning. I used to be a professional dance instructor and will be choreographing the whole thing ;)

My mom is planting all the gladiolus for our ceremony flowers. We'll only have to pay for the reception farrangements. She also baking all of my cupcakes and well only have an 8" cake professionally made. She is sewing all of the table runners and linens out of beautiful fabric I bought 80% off at a going out of business sale.

My dad is building an arch for the outdoor ceremony, a lounge for the cocktail  area, and the cupcake tier.

Its going to be a long year!

Our reception is outside at an Oriental Garden right on the water. I am a nanny part time and the people I nanny for offered to get us a boat to leave by at the end of the night. So then we talked about arriving by boat too. The reception is about a 20 minute boat ride from the church. The whole wedding party will be arriving to the reception by boat. It will be a great time to hang out, relax, and enjoy some time with my fiance before the party starts!
