We specifically asked for no gifts cos we already have way too much crap. But of course, we got some gifts anyway.
One gift was called the GT100 Express (or something like that) - I think it is supposed to make pocket sandwiches and I don't see either one of us using it EVER. After opening it, I looked at my husband and said THIS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY WE ASKED FOR NO GIFTS.
Anyone else receive a dumb or strange wedding gift?
I got a butter curler..... hubby held it up and said what is it
its not a bad gift but a what the gift.... good thing i knew what it was when i saw it because it had no packaging to explain it
Both of those gifts are AWESOME (imo). I'll have to remember to put the GT101 on the registry if it's ever made, bf and I have wanted one for a while.
I have to admit, I don't know what I would do with a butter curler.
So funny!! I am crossing my fingers that we don't get any crazy ones like that!
I actually love the butter curler.
I recieved a peacock clothing hanger.. it wasn't a terrible gift, just a little odd.
surkim -you are certainly welcomed to ours, it even came with accessories... was gonna give it to Goodwill...
I'm a kitchen gadget freak and love that butter curler. I think we should start a board category for unwanted wedding gift exchange. Haha. Like the "Island of Misfit Toys" in the Christmas movie.
the worm compost bin we got was sort of strange... but now I'm totally in love with it!
That's super-tempting. I don't know where I'd put it or what I'd do with it, though. We're still unpacking after moving in July... Thanks for the offer!
@arizonabride, sounds like a great idea!!!! i would gladly donate the butter curler to the inaugral WeddingBee gift collection/rejection bazzar
@eloping - What would we call it? If we come up with a name, I'll suggest it!
Perhaps "Home for Lonely Gifts"?
Or "Puce-colored napkins match *what*?" (no offence to puce, it was just a tip-of-the-tongue color)
A bath and body works lotion/soap/scrub/massage oil set.
DH opened it up and said, "ummm....i think this one's for you"
It was during the semi-annual sale, too, so I know what she spent on it. Seriously, you couldn't have gotten us a $20 gift off our registry instead of lotion? It's funny...i just don't think she knew better
How about something along the lines of "Wedding Gift Swop-Meet"?
I think it's an awesome thing to do.
I really like the idea of calling a gift swap "the Home for Lonely Gifts" or else "Home for Misfit Gifts" - because they literally are mis-fit to the recipient!
This is a great idea ~ I hope it takes off!
I love the idea and personally favor the Home for Misfit Gifts!
we didn't get anything too odd, but we didn't register for hangers and we got massive amounts...we are both established, so it did seem random...most things were GCs or off our registry, but luckily we really love some of the off the registry gifts, too! The only things we might get rid of: snow globe & a blingy photo frame that does not go in our earthy house, but neither is that bad
@ Cheerful--Those are so you can be an upstanding member of the local Neighborhood Watch, of course. ^_^
Flannel snowmen sheets, in the wrong size....They are cute, but I have no idea where she got them to exchange for the right size....I love the gift swap idea, hope it takes off!
$88.
The couple gave us the following newly minted bills: a 50, a 20, a 10, a 5, a 2, and a 1.
They also gave us a savings bond, so I think the assorted currency was just being cute. I liked it.
We got these serving plates with soap shaped like cheesecakes on them. It was kind of weird. My husband asked me what the point of the gift was and I just laughed. Guess we'll just throw some of the sections of the "cakes" into the bathrooms until they're all gone. The serving plates they're on are nice though.
I would have to say the oddest/least appreciated gift we got would have to be the sex straps....yes, you read that correctly. I have already passed them along otherwise into the misfit wedding gift box they would go!
We got these weird candle holders. They were in the shape of those flat champagne glasses, filled with a champagne colored gel, with spaces to put tealights. So teh gel was kinda encased in glass. Oh and it has suspended glitter in it. Theyre like 12 inches tall. We were like "Whaaaaat the heck is this?!" So not our taste...
@cheerful - HAHAHAHA so random!
@Mrs Gloss, my college friends and I have a few risque items that have gotten passed around, either at bachelorettes or weddings. It's become a really 'endearing' tradition, and as one of the later friends to get married, I'm hoping it'll still be continued for me, haha, so I can get a good laugh out of re-recieving the 6ft bull whip I gave my old roommate years ago. I'm not actually sure who ended up with it after the flurry of summer weddings right after graduation...
It was one of Mr. Gloss' college friends, but they really weren't THAT close and he's married with kids - we just really didn't expect it...and now I have no idea what to write in the thank-you note.
I kind of want to write "Thanks so much for your gift, we can't wait to have you over for dinner so we can use them!" :)
I gave them to my MOH (but not as an 'actual gift') just recently for her wedding - I'm sure they will make the rounds of our friends BUT at least we understand it's a joke - they haven't said anything about it.
We haven't received anything weird yet, but I was at a morning-after brunch where the bride and groom were opening their gifts and they got a giant flip-flop-shaped serving dish. The bride didn't know what to say and the groom said, "what do we... do with it?"
LMAO! We have chosen not to register either because we live together already and are established...plus we try to live uncluttered lives and really don't see the need for all this "stuff" I can not wait to see if we get any WTF gifts!
OMG! No freakin way! I read this post and knew exactly what I was going to respond with... We got the GT100 Express thing too!!!! We asked for no gifts and someone bought us the little grill thing and i just thought "what are we going to do with this?!" It's still in the box. I feel kind of bad but I'm probably just going to donate it to goodwill. I'm sure someone out there will want to make mini sandwiches more than I do.
We received a frame with our names engraved in it, but my name was spelled incorrectly!
Funny gifts! My weirdest one was a can opener. Just a regular, handheld can opener. Because we had just moved in together, we already had 2 ... not sure what this person was thinking.
I went to a wedding where the bride and groom recieved some funny "adult toys". SAVE THAT STUFF FOR THE BACHELOR/ETTE PARTIES! How embarassing to open that around friends and family!
ok, im going to have to google sex straps when i get home (im in the office now).... who give sex toys as a wedding gift???
edit: ok, flip flop (although the aussies call them thongs btw) serving platter is pretty out there :)
Ok. I will answer this. =) I actually have a present now that could go into this category! I got one big huge candle that says "65 hours" and 4 smaller candles ... the smaller candles say "quickies" ... I was kind of like .... *Blink* *Blink* I opened this the day after my wedding! Hmm ... soooo .... 65 hours? LOL
Sex straps as a gift?! Sheeesh. You at least give them as a secondary gag gift with a "open alone!" note written as large as possible....
An older camera that still comes with batteries... I was supprised that it didn't need film. Sold it to my friend for $50 so her kid could play with it :)
I am so excited... I hope I get ridiculous and random gifts. Just not sex straps in front of my family.
One of my best dude friends gave us the "F U, Penguin" book, based on the F U, Penguin blog (ok, weird but also hilarious, so we appreciated it.)
We also did not register because we live in a shoebox and have no room for gifts, but we still recieved an odd coffee table book that featured magnified photographs of things like sperm (not kidding), fetuses, skin cells and hair.
We were both like....ew. Cool, but ew.
