I love these prank gift wrapping things. I want to hear your stories!
My dad had been looking for a colorized version of A Christmas Carol on DVD for a VERY long time. He could never find it.
WELL GUESS WHO FOUND ONE.
So I wrapped it up in Christmas wrapping paper (not duct tape or anything like that… that would be mean IMO). Then I put it in the box it arrived in. And wrapped that up.
And it went on and on. It’s just easier to write a list.
Box it was mailed in
Box my bedside lamp came in
Box our new pots and pans came in
Box our deep freezer came in
Yes I wrapped ALL of those boxes! And here’s the fun part. In the last box, I put in 4 of my old yearbooks. The box weighed SO MUCH. He had no idea what it was!!
But he was so excited when he finally opened it.
I’ve heard of some people putting dumb things, like a keychain, inside of a TV box. I think that’s a little mean.. because you see a big box and you really get your hopes up. I know my dad probably got his hopes up too, but I made sure that he wouldn’t be disappointed by putting in something he REALLY wanted.
One year I gave my FI (then boyfriend) an ipod touch. I put it in a gigantic box, but taped it down and put his nephew’s rattle in it. So when he shook it, all he could hear was the rattle!
Have you guys done anything like this? Or am I just nuts?

My parents used to do stuff like this all the time. They found it hilarious!

I do this all the time! It is the best part of giving presents IMO. I will often double or triple wrap layers – first using wrapping paper, then newspaper, then wrapping paper over it. Move on to next size up box and do one layer of wrapping paper, one layer of newspaper, 3rd layer of wrapping paper. When people get a gift from me they groan because it’ll take 10 minutes to open just to get a gift card haha.
I’ve never thought of putting in random things to try to throw them off the trail before! I’ll have to try that.

I’ve never prank wrapped a gift, and had never actually heard of it until a few years ago. One of my friends gave me a nicely wrapped gift, I opened it to find…. A box for a $5 flowerpot from the Dollar Store. I was so confused, wondering if I had somehow let slip that what I REALLY wanted for Christmas was a cheap, plain, flowerpot. I put on a smiley face and opened it, to find one of my favorite presents of the year. A huge cupcake shaped bag full of candies and goodies.

Heheheee…..when my husband and I first started dating he thought it’d be cute to toilet paper my car. Imagine my surprise when I walked out of work at night to see probably 10 rolls of toilet paper around my car. So I did what any sensible woman would do…lied. I put the TP in my car and then I told him there hadn’t been anything on my car…was he sure he got the right one? Well he went white thinking he tp’d the wrong car. Christmas was about a week away so I grabbed a box and wrapped it up all nice…with the TP. He was so confused until I told him where I got it, then he laughed and was rather relieved.

@Peach_Cobbler: AHAHAHAHA. I bet you loved that look of “…wait… oh crap.” on his face!

@Chrysoberyl: I will admit. It. Was. Priceless. He thought for a week he tp’d some innocent persons car….and was totally confused as to why I wrapped his present in toilet paper.

FH did something similar. He had a drawing done of 2 of our horses (the only 2 we had at that point). I found a card for the artist in his wallet and I thought i’d figured it out, until I saw a huge box under the tree. It was massive, and heavy too. I opened it on christmas morning to see the box had ‘honda’ written on it and I thought, ‘has he gotten a 4 wheel motorbike for me or something?!’ I was seriously confused lol. I stopped and looked at the box for a while before mum and FH told me the box was not my present haha. They had filled the bottom of the box with old tiles.

Haha, awesome stories!!
I once gave my brother a gift card for Christmas – I stuck it onto a brick with a piece of paper over it. When I’d asked him what he wanted for Christmas, he said “Any old crap will do,” and he got really upset when he thought I’d taken him seriously and just grabbed something from the rubbish heap.
Another case with my parents – mum got a huge box and sticky-taped $50 to the inside of it for my brother’s Christmas present. She told him the box was empty because she wasn’t buying presents this year….

@Chrysoberyl: Just the usual. Huge box for small things. A couple of years ago my mom gave my sister and I money (that’s what we wanted) but decided it would be more fun to write multiple checks and wrap each of them individually. Cashing those was fun haha.

My family does that all the time. I once gave my sister a pair of sapphire earrings for her birthday, but I wrapped it in a shoebox and filled it with Jenga blocks.

My fiancee’s grandparents gave him noise canceling headphones for Christmas one year. His grandpa just bought a new Mac computer, one with the huge screens. He used the giant box for the headphones. When he opened it he about died, he thought he got a new computer. The look on his face was hillarious! Generally you would think it would be a mean prank, but he had just built his dream computer and was relieved that they didn’t buy him an expensive gift, and second that there was no room in the car for it.

When I was little, my sister gave me this huuuuuge present, like oven huge. I opened it and inside was a box….I opened it and inside was another box…etc. i finally I got down to a box the size of a toaster, there’s was another box….duck taped solid. (We have now been doing this for years and now we use the “no scissors, no knife” rule). Anyway, after fighting that and opening a series of smaller boxes, I finally got to the good stuff! A single bottle of baby blue, bonbon nail polish. I still have it out of sentiment.
