My pup Frankie and I just got back from a walk and on this walk he managed to eat a dead frog (gag) and a dead baby bird...SO GROSS. A nest got destroyed somewhere near my building and all the little baby birds died. If that wasn't sad enough all the dogs in the neighborhood eat them or carry them around to different spots so they are popping up everywhere but this is the first time he actually ate it.

We live by a lake, hence the wildlife, and a turtle got run over and he always tries to eat that too. He will pick up the shell and carry it around before i can get it away from him.

Another of his favorite treats is goose poop.

The gross things dogs do! What is the worst thing your pup has eaten?

My dog recently ate a dead frog and got terribly sick.  He had diarehhea and vomit for 3 weeks, we had to take him to the vet to get him some medicine and he was eating nothing but chicken and rice and pumpkin.

Then, when he was finally getting well... he ate a dead bird.

    Our dogs must be related.

My dog, Chase, has eaten his own poop.  We actually have to watch him and pick up after him immediately so he doesn't.  Once he vomited it back up in my car- honestly the most disgusting moment of my entire life.

He also eats his toys- as in consumes them, and dryer sheets (weird).

    Oh dogs...

HA this post has awesome timing! Just this weekend one of our groomsman's pup got into their neighbors trash and went into convulsions, $3000 later turns out he ate a little crystal meth or pcp. He's fine now thank god but the best part is when the cops where called they said no crime was committed . . . really having drugs in your trash isn't a crime??? Another of his neighbors called social services because the neighbor who's trash it was has a 2 year old they didn't even take the kid away, they just "talked" to the parents, REALLY??! God sometimes Los Angeles is so messed up.

This might top everyone: A dead mouse that our cat had eaten and thrown up.

This all took place under the dinnertable, while we were eating.

Two years ago my black lab pup ate 4 (used) tampons out of the trashcan. It was disgusting. I switched to a diva cup the next day.

Half of a gopher.  It was huge and he left the top half on the porch so it could smile at us.

My birth control. :( She got ahold of about half a pack of the hormone pills - I freaked out! We had to take her to the vet and have her stomach pumped. Apparently the homones can cause bad things like liver failure in dogs. :(

My family dog ate, among many, many other things, rocks and bottle caps. :/  Not just once, either.  Had to be super careful about what he was sniffing on walks.

Ummmm, just recently he ate the crotch out of a pair of my dirty underwear. And a few days later, he pooped it out. Gross.

I once watched the boy's brother's dog swallow a live frog whole.

Most of a tub of vaseline.  We called the vet and they said it would just act as a laxative.  It sure did!  We had to cover his greasy behind with a homemade diaper for a few days lol!

@danadelphia: My dog does this, too. She doesn't actually EAT them, but she chews on them good and proper. I asked the vet about it, and he said it's totally normal - apparently dogs are attracted to the "scent". Still, gross.

My dog snatched a bag of Ricola cough drops out of my purse and ate the entire contents of the bag.  Just the drops though. I have no idea how she got them out of the wrappers.  Nothing bad happened to her but she sure was hyper that night!

My dog eats strange things but she loves them. She eats our cats hairballs if she discovers them before we do, she loves sour patch kids and will stalk you if you don't give her atleast one, one day the fridge wasn't shut all the she took every salad dressing she could reach punctured it and lapped it all up (i mean liek 10 different bottles) she also loves to eat moths, and beetles.

I don't know what I was thinking reading this during my lunch break.....BUT my dog pooped out a quater once. For a good week I thought he might be magic, but as it hasn't happened again since, I'm guessing he just ate it by accident while snarfelling through our dirty clothes. Silly puppies.

When we were living in our old house we had a renter who was a smoker and we had to always remind him not to leave stuff out where Buddy could get it.  One day we came home and she had grabbed a pack of smokes off the table and eaten them all.  At the time we had no idea how sick she would get and we thought it was a little funny...well 24 hour later and an emergancy trip to the vet it was not so funny.  We thought that she was going to die :(  They had to give her fluids by IV.  It took about a week for her to get better.  The funny part was that the roomate wanted us to pay him for the pack of smokes.  I finally told him that I would pay for the smokes and he could pay our vet bill...that shut him up!!

At the lake they like to eat frogs and leaches...so gross!!

The worse thing they've eaten was rat poison. Last year when we bought a house and moved, the previous owner had left roach and rat poison all over the place because the house had been empty for about a year. We thought we had it all picked up, but we missed some under a shelf in the garage. My fiance had taken the week off to unpack, he calls me at work and asks "what do I do if the dogs ate rat poison?". He took them to the vet, they induced vomitting and gave them vitamin K shots and they also had to take vitamin K pills for a month. It was scary.

    Other strange things:

They eat bugs, one of them will catch flies and moths right of the air!

One of them chews up chapstick every chance she gets, we can't leave a tube of chapstick on the night stand or she'll chew it up and eat the chapstick.

All 3 of them like beer. You can't leave a glass of beer unattended or they will be lapping it up when you get back in the room!

Random animal parts are always on the menu at my house! They eat a raw prey-model diet, so they routinely get weird things like chicken feet, pork brains, beef kidney, etc. :)

While it wasn't my dog, this is awesome. Well, unless you're one of the people involved. During my senior year in vet school, we took a dog to surgery who had eaten something that wouldn't work its way through. It turned out that the dog had eaten a pair of women's underwear. We saved it, since owners often want proof that something was removed. The wife's reaction? "That's. Not. My. Underwear." I promptly excused myself.

LOL I really am not bothered by our three dogs going after bugs, worms or field mice (we live in the country).  I figure they are just "hunting."  But I really wish they wouldn't eat highlighters (the dog's tongue and mouth were bright yellow!), cat poop out of the litter box, or each other's vomit!

Also, all of our trashcans have lids . . . My DH found our Shepherd in the yard chewing on a used maxi from the trash . .

@PixelMePretty: Wow that is so funny, that happened to me with a previous dog I had! The worst part was she was having trouble "passing it" so I had to go and pull it the rest of the way out. It was a used condom she got out of the garbage and swallowed whole. I was mortified/so grossed out helping her get that out, ugh!

@danadelphia: My old dog (same one that ate the condom) would chew the crotch out of any pair of dirty panties she could find. It was so gross. I lost a lot of nice underwear that way...

My current dog hasn't eaten anything too disgusting that I can think of...I just hate it when the pukes and then starts to eat it back up...gag.

Her own poop. I hate to admit that our beautiful Lucia did it, but she did indeed.

And I guess it doesn't count as eating per se...but my parents' dog Stu has been known to lick up my dog Theo's pee right after he's lifted his leg. I die.

GSP used to take my roommates tampons OUT of the wastebasket and bring them out, and lay them on the floor... when we had company... like, "look!  (at) What I'm not suposed to do!"  It embarrassed my roommate, but the worst part was picking them up!

My FIs Mini Foxie got in under the christmas tree one year and dug out a box of chocolates. He ate the chocolates box wrapping at all. This little dog loves chocolate, and is very allergic to it. He spent the next few days at the local vet and had to have his stomach pumped.

A friend of mine has a very stupid Golden Retreiever.  She is gorgeous but he doesnt do any sort of training with her at all so she is dumb, she digs up his whole yard and eats everything in sight. (And he wonders why, duh)  Anyway she get very sick and he took her to the vet.  They did an X Ray of her stomach and had to open her up. $2500 later he discovered she had eaten a corn cob whole. a tennis ball whole. there were also huge chucks of cement that she had chewed off the path, and a pieces of a chewed up house roof tile. That was an expenisve lesson for him.

Oh good, our pug isn't abnormal then - he LOVES kitty poop. We had to build a cage around our litter box so he can't get into it and have a "snack". He also finds poop from stray cats and God knows what else when he goes on walks. Knowing his addiction to poop, I try not to kiss his little muzzle too much but how can you resist??

So glad my dog isn't the only one who loves cat poop. Makes me gag!

Other fun things my dog has ingested include:

    • CD
    • remote control
    • bra
    • the crotch out of worn underwear
    • a bag of peanut butter M&Ms and 2/3rds of a bag of baked lays
    • 1 pair of shoes
