Ok, for some odd reason I was thinking of this today. When I first started driving in 1999 I was 17 and the lowest I remember getting gas was 77 cents. Ahhh the good old days. I guess it depends how old you were with the prices of gas. Also I lived in NJ. Soo….
77 cents a gallon
17 years old (not sure how this factors in, just thought I’d include it)

I started driving in 1996 and I don’t remember gas ever being below $2.00. Maybe like $1.98… in California.

I remember when I first got my license in 2002 in MN, I paid $0.97! I wish that’s what I was paying now!

I remember it being about 99 cents in southern California back around 03.

99 cents when I first started driving.
Sadly, now it’s been over $4 for a bit. 🙁

I started driving in 2002 and I remember being able to fill up my tank for $18. Assuming I had a 12 gallon tank, I’m guessing gas was somewhere around $1.50 p/gallon.

I remember paying about $1.20 through most of my early driving years. Though, I think it was like $0.98 when I first started driving in 1999. I’m from the Midwest, so I know that makes a little difference.
It wasn’t until I started working on my teaching degree in 2004 that gas really started to get expensive enough for me to care. I miss the days of cruising around just for fun. Now, I can barely afford to drive around town. I worry about having the gas to drive to interviews (I’m an art teacher so the travel distance can be far). My husband and I seriously consider whether it’s cheaper to go to a laundry mat and spend the gas or pay twice as much at our apartment buildings broken down machines. It really sucks. 🙁

I started in about 2002 and it was hovering right under a dollar or about $1.05 in the midwest. Man, I sure do miss those days!

89 cents a gallon in high school… ahhhhh

I remember it being .90/gal in SE Louisiana in the spring of 2001.

I got my DL in Michigan in 1998 and I believe the lowest I ever paid was around 88 cents. I remember freaking out in 2000 when the gas prices went up to $1.20, lol

I think I remember paying $1.15 for gas the first time I ever bought it in 2001 when I got my license, but I just looked up the average and it was supposedly $1.46 that year.
Geez, I can hardly believe it was LESS than a dollar not long before that. I am so stressed out over gas right now it’s like painful to even discuss this. I just paid $4.45 the other day. And I don’t want to think about how much my guests are going to have to pay to fly out next summer. There goes half our list. Absolute bullshit.

I started driving in 2000. I recall it was around .89-.99 that next summer. Essentially an inconsequential amount even to a 16 year old. Now as an adult we budget for it– depressing.

The lowest I ever remember gas being in Canda is .36/litre ($1.44/gallon) in the late 80’s. When I first started driving in 1998 I think it was .69/litre.
Today it rings in at a stunning $1.38/litre ($5.52/gallon).

I remember in 2000 it being $.97, and we used to always drive everywhere cuz it cost less than $15 to fill up the tank! Those were the days….
