2. our photographer!
those were the 2 things I wanted to spend more money on and in the end, found my dress used and found an amazing photographer who is starting out in the wedding industry and she took amazing pics!!!
This will sound so silly and indulgent...but for me, it wasn't the dress or the flowers. It was the lounge-style cocktail bar we had set up on the dance floor. :o)
Our reception was in a hotel banquet room and the bar is usually just a long dinner table set up outside of the room by the doors. We were already having an open bar, so it was one of those things i would not have even considered spending extra on at first.
In the end, it totally added a different dynamic to the evening and created much more of a party atmosphere. After dessert, all the guests didn't want to just sit at the tables and wanted to mingle together at the bar/dance floor, so we got a lot of people to dance (and drink!)
I'm really glad I sprung for a woman to put together my "DIY" flowers for me (just paid by the hour, and worth every penny) during the wedding weekend, and am also very glad we went with a photo package that had a "morning after" shoot (as this ended up being so fun and romantic, took a lot of pressure off getting perfect pictures together the day before, and ended up giving us some great shots!)
I am glad I booked a good makeup artist. She was awesome the day-of, really calming. It felt so great to be pampered. I would have been a mess if I'd had to do that myself. But I know zilch about makeup, so....
I am also glad we hired a limo (3 weeks before the wedding). It was nice to not have to worry about getting places, etc.
Neither of these was in my budget but we saved in other areas so we had the cash. SO worth it. :-)
The venue and photographer. Oh, and the chairs :) Our venue, as beautiful as it was, for some reason had the UGLIEST chairs I'd ever seen. We rented chivari chairs and they totally transformed the room. It was SO worth it for us.
And I'm happy we splurged to get premium alcohol for our bar. Guests kept commenting on what gracious hosts we were because they could get great drink after great drink.
Things I'm glad we didn't splurge on:
Floral centerpieces (we did DIY ones)
A DJ (iPod wedding for us!)
My dress (I felt beautiful and amazing and spent $270)
A more lavish meal (We got the basic food package, which was delicious and awesome, and people said how amazing it was anyway)
The venue, it was amazing. Our photographer who wasn't that expensive but photography is SO important to us. Plus we are so glad we got the videographer, again I shopped around extensively and found a great one for a great price. Our pics and video came out beautiful!
our cinematographer. i got nice photos, but nothing as impressive as our video. yeah, not something you hear often, but we have friends who keep asking to see our same-day-edit again because it was so cool. love love. that and we splurged on the venue, and so incredibly glad we did!
Our splurges...
1) photography
2) professional airbrushed make-up for me and my BMs
3) chair covers & sashes
I don't regret any of them!
I don't know at the moment, but I'm thinking up splurging (and not telling anyone) on uplighting - $700. It's something I really, really want to do and so I thought, I'm doing it!
Open Bar! People danced all night but no one got totally trashed.
These three things were super important to us from day 1 (OK, maybe the FI didn't care about the dress as much as I did 
)
