I don’t think there is any standard, I think it depends a lot on the size of your ears.

Currently I just wear CZ everyday, and I have two piercings in each ear. I wear 2 TCW equivelent in the lower ear peircings and .50 TCW equivelent in the upper piercings. I think it looks great!

Mine are round CZ, but they are 5 or 6 mm across.

I have a pair of 1CT studs that are really comfortable and, for me, they are the perfect size. They are a 1/2CT each.

I don’t own any yet, but I’ve tried on different sizes and at least on ME, anything smaller than 1/2 carat (each earring) looks sort of silly and too small. But 1 carat each is a little too big. So when I eventually buy them, I will probably go for 3/4 carat studs so I’m not afraid of eventually growing out of them or something.

Mine are 1/4 carat each and I think 1/2 would be perfect.  I wear mine every day and would love to get an upgrade! ๐Ÿ™‚

1/2 carat each is my favorite.

@farrahfay: mine are .5ct each and i think they are perfect, i wear them 24/7, and no issues when it comes to sleeping with them in or showering. The back screws on so it’s always well secured. but i think up to a full ct each would be comfortable.

(sorry for the huge photo!!!)

Mine are also 1/2 carat each and I think they are great for every day. I would go larger before I went smaller, though. I like @moderndaisy‘s idea of 3/4 carat.

my ears are small so a 1/2carat would be too big for me (too heavy/look insanely huge on my lobes)

I [personally] prefer 1/4carats, but that’s because of the way larger sizes look on me–I also like ‘delicate’ things rather than blingy-bling lol.

I think you should gauge what you like based on how it looks.

Also you said your ears have been sensitive to ‘fake earrings lately’ .. what kinds of metals are you wearing? I have a nickel allergy and can’t wear anything plated (as nickel is often used in the plating process–rhodium is also often used which can often be reacted to the same way[sensitivity] as an allergy to ‘cheap metals [i.e.:nickel]), also I find I can’t wear anything that isn’t silver/gold/titanium generally, even surgical steel can irritate me (though it is supposed to be nickel free).

So I would also try a higher grade metal than you’re used to wearing when you buy your studs (though if you know you have a sensitivity to gold I would recommend platinum or titanium settings).

GL!
