I’ve been getting occasional engagement cards in the mail since I got engaged last month. I didn’t even know people sent these anymore, but they are really nice gestures.
In some cases, people enclosed money, so I sent thank-you notes to them…but for everyone else who just sent a card, do I thank them in person next time I see them, or is there a more “proper” way to respond?
It’s worth mentioning that most of the people who sent cards will probably not be invited to the wedding.

You should always send a thank you note for the cards that include money or gifts. Just don’t mention the wedding plans or date if you don’t plan to invite them.

I send a thank you email for the thoughtful card!

I would definitely say send a card. It’s thoughtful of them to send it to you. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it. If you’re not sure if they’re getting an invite, just don’t say something like “See you at the wedding!” (I had someone say that to me at our engagement party – she was someone we for sure were not inviting lol it was a bit awkward.)
