We're debating between rock candy or just making a donation. The rock candy would just be in our colors. If we donate it would be either to an education fund (I'm a teacher) or to a cancer fund as we've lost relatives recently.
Our midnight snack; however, is popcorn in old school boxes because we met at the movie theatre (he had to catch me as I fell down the stairs).
Aww, Ireland, that is cute about the popcorn and your movie theatre meeting! Love it!
We are still going back and forth on our favors but we want to get coasters made that say Cheers in English, Irish and Slovak (Our backgrounds). We'll only get heavy weight ones, not flimsy ones, and if people leave them behind I'm sure all our families would love to have them.
We also want to do cake boxes with a cake buffet so guests can bring their dessert home.
I'm thinking about asking my mom to make mini berry pies as favors.
We are having the wedding a their house, where I grew up, and there are blueberry bushes, mulberry trees, raspberries, black berries etc. I practically grew up on them, and her pies are great!
These favors will be a great DIY project for my mom, have sentimentality to me, and significance to our venue, and who doesn't love pie??
We did those mints that melt in your mouth in different flavors. Both of us are crazy about them. And we got to eat the left over ones - bonus!
No significance, except for the fact that I went to the classiest wedding EVER two years before we got married and the bride had handmade truffles. I decided then and there that I had to have not only edible favors, but truffles as well!
I'm having a 1950's hollywood romance inspired wedding. We'll be playing lots of Rat Pack, Etta James, Nat King Cole, etc. during dinner, for our first dance, the mother/son and father/daughter etc.
So in keeping with the theme I thought it would be really cute to give mini bottles of wine as favors and I'm going to make tags for them that read "When the world seems to shine like you've had to much wine - that's amore." (Dean Martin, "That's Amore")
For the other favor I'd like to set up a candy bar with various jars of candy. Candy bars are just too great not to have. :) So the guests can fill up their baggies and enjoy!
Not sure what you're theme is but the other cutest-favor-i've-ever-seen were these "Happily Ever After" carraige candles. Google it. They are fantastic. :) They just don't work with my theme so I'm not using them.
My family is from India, and FI is from Seattle. So our favors are packets of coffee (Starbuck's) and Darjeeling tea next to each other in a box.
I am giving out packets of wildfower seeds that say Wildflowers from Our Wedding with a nice note on the back thanking guests for sharing our day, etc. The significance is that my wedding is being held in a beautiful garden and that I teach botany in the summer (along with other subjects).
@alieliza - yum homemade berry pies! you have some lucky guests!
We had Jones Soda bottles with custom label, which was photos from our e-pic session. We are big fans of Jones Soda and it seemed like a cute idea for something edible. We also did a photobooth which printed 2 copies, one for our photo guestbook and one for the guests to keep.
our favors are notes to individual guests, rolled up like a scroll and topped with a ribbon in one of our wedding colors, fastened with a wax seal of our monogram. it's a small wedding so we wanted something meaningful.
the notes will be like an advanced thank you, reflecting on the guest (our closest friends & family) have been part of our life/lives up till this point :)
we believe (hopefully!) this will be a gift everyone takes home with them.
Our favors will be photographs of our guests taken at our DIY "photobooth," and used to make magnets, bookmarks, pocket planners, or just framed photos.
I'm so excited for our favors. We're doing a glass ball Christmas ornament filled wih sand from the beach on which our reception is being held. This is also the beach on which we spent the majority of our time the first summer we started dating so it is a significant place for both of us. In addition to the sand, we collected some shells from the beach near his parents house when we visited and will add these for color and the blending of our two places.
@slicey19-
The ornament idea is sooo cute. Are you hand making these? I'd love to learn more, if you don't mind. I am getting married in April on the beach and i love the juxataposition of an ornament for the holidays!
Brilliant!
We are from different nationalities and we combined two things that really represent each country, I love them!
We are getting married in the fall in New England during peak foliage season so to go along with out theme we are doing maple sugar candies and/or mini fall theme shaped sugar cookies.
I am having pretty little jewellry boxes made out of pretty pearly shells and magnets made out of shell, wrapped in tulle with a nice ribbon and a love poem scrolled up and attached and thank you tag attached; very cute; my mom bought it in the Philippines and is a reflection of my culture; so free for me! or I'll pay her back in two years
We're having homemade gingerbread men. They are significant in a few ways. First, we're getting married 13 days before Christmas. Second, FH brought them on one of our first dates (it was a picnic). Third, FH's grandma used to bake them for him when he was little (she has passed away). Fourth, one of our favourite things when we lived in the UK was buying the "decorate your own" gingerbread men from Asda. Fifth, gingerbread is one of FH's favourite things. I was never a fan myself but FH has converted me. I've collected a few different recipes for us to try and find a good one. The tags will be personalised so they double as place settings. I'm hoping people will appreciate the effort!
Ours is homemade blueberry jam from the blueberries on our property! I think it says a lot about us as well as goes with our "country" theme.
We made charitable donations. We made one to the college we both attended, and another to an environmental protection charity. On the cards, we wrote "In lieu of favors, X and X have made charitable donations to X University, in celebration of their past, and X charity, with hope for the future." I thought it was nice. We also wrote a handwritten note to each guest, thanking them for coming to the wedding and for being part of our lives, and slipped it in the envelope with the charity card.
For our wedding favors we have done personalized shot glasses with jordan almonds (in our wedding colors), wrapped in cellophane with a ribbon in another one of our wedding colors. My FI has collected shot glasses for many years, and in our kitchen we have them all beautifully displayed. We thought that the personalized shot glasses definately spoke to who we are, and the jordan almonds were more for the candy aspect then the sentimental aspect... but we love both reasons! Plus I love wedding favors that can be enjoyed... Everyone can use a shot glass!
We're doing heart-shaped measuring spoon sets. Everyone knows how much I like to cook and we got them on sale. Plus, one per couple, so they aren't that expensive
We're also doing boxes of caramel corn.
I picked it because I'm in charge of favors and popcorn is my absolute favorite snack. I'm kind of famous among my friends and family for how much popcorn I eat. And since my fiance and I have been living together, he's become an addict, too.
Also, we're having a beach wedding and wanted something casual and fun to eat for our favors. Originally I thought about cotton candy or saltwater taffy. But I like popcorn better than both of those things and I've definitely eaten caramel corn on the boardwalk before.
Well our favors will be our candy station. The station will be filled with many of my FI and my favorite candies from our childhood. Surprisingly this has never been done at any of my family's weddings so this will be new to everyone. What a great way then to fill our tummies with tons of sweets =)
We are doing a donation in lieu of favors. Way back in the day, my grandmother lost her first child. She prayed a novena to St. Jude to give her another child. Her promise was that she'd give the name Jude to the next baby. Luckily she did have more children (4 more) - one of them being my dad. So, all of my aunts & uncles have the middle name Jude. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away when i was a little baby, so I never knew her. I also never knew that my mom had kept my grandmother's engagement ring aside for me all these years. When FH proposed, my mom showed us the ring and said it was mine if I wanted it. Strangely enough, it was the exact style I had always admired and it fit me perfectly!
So, in honor of my late grandmother, we're going to do donations to St. Jude's.
We still haven't figured out what to do for favors...sigh...
I want it to be something fabulous and meaningful, I just don't know yet what that is!
After seeing Mrs. Strawberry's post last week, we've decided to do S'mores as favors. We both love camping and love S'mores. Bonus, my maiden name kind of sounds like S'mores!
Finally getting caught up with this thread, WOW, you ladies are so creative. I love that a lot of the favors seem to have personal significance.
Does anyone have pics of your favors to share?
My sister lived in Belgium at the time , do MIL and I made little boxes with bees on them (both our names start with 'B') She was so cute!! She even put our names on the tiny little bee wings! We put the chocolate inside with a note of $1 donation to saving the honey bee research for each guest.
We did English toffee (hubby's fron England), maple candies made by my hometown neighbors, adn chololate covered macadamia nuts from our current home in Hawaii. We put all in a little white bag tied with raffia and a "Mahalo" tag explaining the significance.

Are they just cute, or do they say something about your relationship, or fit your wedding theme, or....?
