hmm i can't vote because it's not an option, but my fiance's ring will be 6.5 mm. He's got bigger hands as well so a thicker band looked better.
FI's ring is most likely going to be 5 mm - he hasn't picked it out yet.... ;o)
I am curious as well. My FI gets a scared look in his eyes everytime I utter the word shopping.
Most of the thicker looking rings at the stores were 7mm and my fiance knew he wanted a ring that was just a little thicker. We went to several stores and never saw any that were over 7mm. The jeweler made him one that was 8mm. We've only seen the mold so far, but it's nice. He wears a size 11. He's tall and thin, so I actually thought he'd want a thinner ring.
I would look online to get an idea of what YOU like, which can start you guys off in one direction. My fiance gets nervous w/ too many options, so we focused on what he wanted before we went to any stores. He's an artist so he actually drew it out. Funny enough, he then forgot he had the drawing, and we found it a few weeks ago. It looks EXACTLY like what he picked. :-)
I bought a 6mm ring for him...he has medium sized hands and it looks great!
I believe my husband's is a 4 mm, although it could be 5. We looked at both, but he has pretty narrow fingers, and he is not a big jewelry-wearing guy, so I think we went with the smaller one.
some extra info to help make the experience quicker and less painful for him. They can usually make the ring whatever width you want, depending on the style of ring, but if it's plainer it shouldn't be a prob. Also they can make a ring either Polished or brushed really easily and it's something they can do down the road if he decides he wants to change it.
Good luck and by the way, the experience wasn't nearly as painful for my fiance as it was for me, he could not make up his mind and it took AGES for him to decide... men.
@aloweha: I can relate! They say they don't care (about the little details as much as women) but they clearly do! Men. Sheesh!
My guy has thin fingers and the 3mm looked better than a big chunky ring.
Funny anecdote: we have the EXACT same wedding bands. Same size and everything!
I think my husband's is either a 5 or a 6. For him, he didn't want anything too thick, because he's not a big jewelery guy. I actually have a 3mm myself--I liked the thicker band with my e-ring setting.
My Fiance is getting a 6mm. He has pretty average to a lil bigger hands I would say. The jewelry we went to says that 95% of men get that size ring.
My fiancee is getting a 3 mm, but then again, she is also female. ;-)
My guy has a 9mm. THe jeweler asked if he was a big guy, but no, he just likes thicker rings. I like that it's super obvious in your face that he's taken, LOL.
I just took a guess, because I have no idea (just eye-balled it) but it's kinda thick, but not too thick (how scientific!)
FI's only concern in finding a ring was that he could get used to wearing it - he has never really worn any type of jewlery ever.
We liked the thicker bands so he's probably going with a 9mm...he's got big hands so something smaller looked lame on him.
My FI's will be 8mm. Our jeweler thought that thick looked better on his long skinny figures. His ring size is 6 and 3/4. He also liked the look of thicker, I just hope it's comfortable. He does wear a large class ring on his right hand.
Mine picked 6mm. It was like he gravitated to that size... if I picked out a 5.5 or 7 mm ring, he was like "nah, don't like it." And EVERY ONE that he liked was 6 mm, so we figured that was the right size for him!
My guy has huge hands. His ring size is 11. So he got an 8mm band. It looks great on him but a guy probably needs to be bigger in general to pull it off.
First we went with a 7mm, but it looked so bad on hi, so we ended up with a 5mm one and it is perfect!!!
I believe he is getting a 4mm (it could be 5 though). He didn't want anything too thick and his hands are kinda small so anything thicker would look weird. It's also going to be plain white gold. He didn't want anything fancy and no diamonds.
I think this is really based on personal preference. My guy doesn't have particularly large hands, but he really wanted a thick cut, domed band. He got 8mm and he tries it on all the time because he loves it so much! Hahaha! Get him to just try on different bands and see what he likes. Maybe a thinner band will strike him.
hubby works with electronics and tiny cables all day so he needed the thinnest possible band. He ended up with a 4mm even though he has medium hands. he got the simplest band possible. no extra frills for my hubby. i'm frilly enough for him.
My FH ring is a 9mm with 1.0 tcw!! HUGE! and I LOVE IT. Now I call him Mr. Taken ;) ;)
He's tall and lanky, so he didn't like any of the thicker rings. We ended up settling on a 4mm, size 7 and it was perfect for him. He didn't want it to be heavy or to get in the way.
My FI's is 8mm. He knew he wanted a larger ring.

The title says it all... :)
Getting my FI to go ring shopping for himself is about as easy as it is to get him to go to the doctor. When we see each other in October (my last visit to the US before we get married) I'd like to make the ring shopping experience for him as painless as possible! He has large hands so I think the smallest we can go is like 6mm?
